Guys,

I have just purchased this little number off Ebay! It has annoyed me I have the facility to watch TV but never got round to buying this part.

Can someone confirm if this is definitely compatible with my E85 (53 reg) Zed? I notice a lot of these items have slightly different part numbers?

Is it a straight plug n play job? Will the Sat Nav still work?

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

These people supply Lear 'digital' converters and may be able to help:

They do list a part specifically for the Z4.......

If you previously had analogue TV it is a straight swap. If you didn't then it will depend on whether the wiring is present under your boot carpet to connect to the Nav computer. Not sure if all Zeds had the wiring pre-installed in fact I'm not sure the bulge in the boot carpet is even present in all Zeds to allow the TV module to be mounted underneath. If you didn't have analogue then you won't have the antennae in the rear bumper either so will need aerials mounting somewhere. 123BillyB put his aerials in the windscreen pillar trims with better results than OEM bumper aerials.

Whip your carpet up and have a butchers at what your starting point is.

Does anyone who has fitted a Digital/hybrid TV unit know what the settings should be for UK TV ?
i.e. PAL-I, PAL-EURO, or United Kingdom, or England, etc.

Part Number LEAR/BMW 6 956 832 but I just keep re-scanning and getting 'fuzz'

If anyone else has successfully swapped out the old Analogue unit for a Hybrid or Digital unit, please let me know the correct settings, or how to access the 'hidden' hard-drive menu.

I do not recall any such settings when I swapped mine over. It just worked. Did you previously have analogue TV installed that worked (to prove the antennas in the rear bumper function)?

PAL is a video standard which would affect picture rendering but even if you had the settings for this wrong I would expect the tuner to locate the channels and display the information.

Yeah, There was an analogue TV in there before as standard and there are two aerial leads coming into the unit. I've bought a £5 adaptor to convert the MCX connector into Coax, so I'm going to hook it up to the main Household TV aerial via the aerial socket in the garage tomorrow. If it doesn't pick it up during the scan with that much reception, I know I'm flogging a dead horse and they've probably sent me another rebadged analogue unit.

PAL was analogue. Apparently DVT-B is the format for digital.

I'll report back !

I've cracked it !

The very nice e-bay chap in Lithuania sent me a replacement hybrid unit, which when I plugged in, immediately came up with " Searching for Channels... Channels Found= "Digital 0" & "Analogue 0"

Once I set the TV Format to PAL-I and re-scanned the digital channels started appearing.
All works well, Picture good. Result. :D

(I haven't got BBC yet though, so I think I need to park up in an area with better reception and re-scan again, rather than trying to do it in the garage !)

Be careful when buying these as there seem to be a lot of reports that original units are being re-stickered as Hybrid units and sold under false descriptions. The unit I first had was labelled hybrid but made no on-screen reference to digital channels, like the second unit did.
However, I have to say the ebay guy was brilliant and even posted me a second unit before he'd received the original back. (Ebay Username PSW got it from was 'Magdar' if anyone else is looking to buy)
