But not every range gets it. It's stupid. But then this the same company who don't allow the 135 or the 140 to be sold as XDrive in the UK.

Seriously Tim, I wouldn't bother with it. If BMW can't be arsed to allow a factory option then the last thing you need is it being fitted at the dealer prior to pick up. Could result in damage to the trim and/or it being ill fitted.
 
So the one that's possibly going to be retro fitted doesn't project onto the windscreen just onto an add on?

The factory fit job requires a special windscreen to prevent the projected info bleeding thro.
 
I have the built in version on my X5 and love it. I'm not sure I would get that stick on version.

Thanks Angie, yes the thought of it being fitted doesn't rest easy with me. Will see what the cost is and have a ponder, I've got until Sept, money is probably better spent on GAP insurance.

As its a dealer install to a brand new car they usually just charge the price of the unit which is around £200 isn't it? But yes, you've got lots of time to think it over and maybe see it in a car.
 
My son went against that option on his 140 as it looks terrible aftermarket ...

Correct. It's a plastic screen that sits on the dash. Whole point of the heads up display is to be in your line of vision isn't it? For me it's no better than looking down at the speedo due to the placement of the unit.
 
For me, the only good - fairly recent - changes to the instruments are the large numeric readout of the speed like I have in the Porsche and the Audi. It is quicker to glance down and see a big 32 on the instruments that staring at the needle to see if it is not too far above the 30 or so.

I agree with this.
When speedos changed from a needle to a digital number I was a bit apprehensive and not sure if I would like it.
It has been on a few of my bikes and the Mini (I pretty much ignore the stupid big clock in the middle of the dash) and you get used to it easily, so much so that when you go into a car that has a needle its a bit odd.
It should, and probably will, be put in all vehicles.

Yep +1 again, it feels like it takes alot longer to see the speed using a dial than a a numeric readout

OK so I've placed an order with my dealer to get one fitted when the motor arrives at a special discounted price :lol: Was a little surprised and cheaper than the Navdy, maybe for a reason :D If I get caught speeding I can blame BMW :)

Thanks for the replies, its not what I would really want but a decent enough compromise.
