BMW G29 Z4 Side Mirror Issues

Hello,
I've noticed that my driver sideview mirror has been experiencing intermittent issues, such as problems with mirror adjustment, heating, auto tilt, and the blind spot light not functioning. These issues seem to arise particularly after heavy rain or after washing the car. After doing some research, I found that this is a common problem with the wiring and control module in this generation of BMWs, as they aren't adequately protected against moisture, leading to shorts or faults. My car is a 2020 model with about 33,000 miles on it.

Do you think BMW would consider a goodwill repair for the module? Has anyone attempted to waterproof the module with something like a conformal coating or epoxy? I'm looking for the cheapest option.
 
Hello and welcome to the forum, I don't recall this happening to me, or something that I've read happening on here. Though it is an intermittent fault, it is perhaps easy to replicate by the dealer. As to whether they might offer some goodwill gesture depends on your relationship with the dealer and if they perceive it as a failure or feature. When you next go in for a service, discuss it with them. If they are not servicing the vehicle, your chances of any goodwill gesture are slim to none.

I’ve never heard of this. Did you take out extended warranty?

Also, not sure of any modules in the mirror. Only wiring and motor?
 
Unfortunately, this is quite a common issue with this generation of BMWs, and it's likely due to moisture getting into the module. If you're still under warranty, it's worth asking for a goodwill repair. Otherwise, waterproofing the module could help, but it's a risky DIY fix.

It might be a good idea to talk to your dealer, especially if they’ve been servicing your car. As for DIY waterproofing, make sure to use the right material that won’t make the issue worse :)
 
Waterproofing (DIY) Yes, some enthusiasts have successfully tried methods such as: Conformal coating (silicone or acrylic) applied to the module's PCB.
Or, more simply, a thin silicone seal around the case to keep moisture out without disassembling everything.
