BMW extended warranty

Evening all,

I've had a quick search of the forum and couldnt find an answer to my questions. So sorry if it has been covered...

I've found conflicting information on whether it's possible to extend a BMW warranty. If a car has always had a warranty and has full BMW service history, how do you maintain this warranty though a private sale?

Anyone have any experience with this? Is it worth doing and what sort of annual fee would this incur?

Many thanks,

Lewis

Yes you can start a BMW warranty on a car even if it doesn't currently have a warranty. Service history will need to be 100% to avoid wiggle room, or they might make you have a service. Best thing to fo is ring them and do through your circumstances with them.

If the car is being sold privately, and has a paid-annually extended warranty, then you can just transfer it to the new owner.

If the If the car is being sold privately, and has a paid-monthly extended warranty, then the new owner can take out a new policy but the premium may be higher.

If the car is being sold privately, and does not have an extended warranty, but does have a full service history, then an extended warranty can be purchased, but it will be classed as a "lapsed policy" and the premium for the first year will be significantly higher.

If the car is being sold by a trader, then any existing extended policy becomes null and void.

(The "extended warranty" is really an insurance policy and is provided by a third party - Allianz. The rules for the new car warranty and the AUC warranty are different.)
