BMW Extended Warranty - Update

Just had a letter from BMW warranty apologising for not inviting us to purchase extended warranty when the Zed turned 3 last month.
Having spoken to them them the annual premiums quoted for comprehensive cover are
£382 (with a £100 excess) or
£296 (with a £250 excess)
There didn't seem much point in taking the lower cover levels as they don't include the folding roof mechanism
What are your views on this?
Can similar cover be had anywhere else for example?
How many of you have taken out extended cover?

I look forward to some valued debate!
Terry

A few people have taken it out. Sound investment. Warranty direct can't come close they can also be a stickler for things. The bmw top level warranty even covers the idrive system too.

One guy on here advised if you pay by direct debit the price does not increase but stays the same. Not sure if others have had increases year on year but that's possibly a top tip if it does normally increase.

The price is worth it alone for the DTC. My previous E88 120i had a warranty cost of just shy of £500 and it only had 14k on the clock. I didn't bother taking it cause it was just robbery and I only had to pay £400 to get the hydro unit replaced but I will be on the Z'd

If I was keeping mine I would definitely get the full warranty ,there's just so much to go wrong with that roof

After someone who had to have a fabric roof replaced after 14k miles and 3 years due to a design flaw in BMW design (which they knew about) the roof is probably the second maybe third biggest cost after the engine and the gearbox if it needs fully replaced. So yes I also agree that for the roof also it's a good deal because I was quoted £3k for a fully fitted roof on a E88 and that was fabric!

Do it, christ mine in 5 years old now and this past year has been in and out of the dealers like a yoyo. My warranty premiums for the coming year are:

Under 60000 miles comprehensive
£250 excess - £374
£100 excess - £460
£0 excess - £616

Over 60000 miles comprehensive
£250 excess - £552
£100 excess - £730
£0 excess - £1049

What boils my piss is how they load the premium.

Thanks for the replies thus far everybody.
I will certainly be taking out one of the options but am confused about the direct debit question.

Can anyone clarify this? Are we saying the initial annual premium doesn't change in subsequent years if you pay by direct debit or are we talking the usual 8% hype for stage payments within each year?

Post re the D/D is in this thread here http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=62963&p=939286&hilit=Warranty#p939286

And here is the post

Oh, a useful tip is to do the pay monthly option. My CSL warranty stated at £82 a month for 4 years...under the annual payment option it would have increased annually. The monthly option stays at the same price for as long as you own the car.

I would stick with the BMW warranty Terry but read the small print if there is any. Any sort of warranty is a must so long is covers the important bits i.e. the roof as if anything is going to fail it will be this. Unfortunately I don't have great confidence in the E89 as it ages, certainly unlike the Z3 which I never give a second thought of anything going wrong but then its less complex.

Thans for your further contributions - especially the link to Dario's thread - I missed that one.
The roof scares me enough - never mind the DCT!
But what a magnificent piece of metal origami :worshipbmw:

Just finalised the details on this.
Premiums are reviewed annually whether you pay by monthly direct debit or as a one-off lump sum.
There is however a 10% premium loading if you opt for monthly terms - being a Yorkshireman I declined
Free recovery is also included provided you are more than half a mile from home.
Let's hope we don't have to use either!

I've got the extended warranty on my E87, paid by direct debit. I've paid the same price for 18 months, with no increase.

Would be interested to know if it really does not go up if you pay monthly or by direct debit anybody? :?

As per the above post it would seem that it doesn't change but then BMW aren't going to tell you that if it means they increase it next year and won't get that 'extra' money off you. I suppose we will only know if someone with the E89 takes monthly and confirms next year.
