If the engine fails in an M you know you will be talking in the region of £10,000 to replace it via a BMW dealer. As unlikely as that is to occur, it does happen and I personally don't want to be faced with shelling that out on top of the money I've already paid for the car. For that reason I'm prepared to bite the bullet and extend my warranty next month, it's all down to your attitude towards risk.
As the value of the car diminishes then I'd be less inclined to keep the warranty going but for now it's a valuable enough asset to pay the extra for the insured warranty. Of course you then need to keep the BMW service history going but I've found that's it's easier than ever to haggle the prices down with the BMW dealerships and that makes the differential between them and the indy's a lot less than some of the figures I've seen quoted.

///M engine - upwards of £12,000. BMW AUC warranty is S**T as I discovered yesterday. Beware because BMW UK will wriggle out of everything. I have a paltry 4 wheel centre caps that have lost all their chrome after 35 months. I 'phoned my local main BMW dealer to be told that they were not covered under the BMW AUC warranty. But they then said that as my car was still under the 3 year "Manufacterer's Warranty" they would be replaced next week....
My point is that the 12 month BMW AUC warranty offered/given by BMW UK on a Main Dealer used BMW is absolutely worthless. BMW UK will wriggle & squirm to avoid giving you the "Guarantee" that they promised you when you paid £4,000+ over the odds for your "Main Dealer" BMW.
BMW stinks - & they know it. Buy a Hyundai with a 7 year warranty....... :?

Was responding to Sitting Bulls post about how bad the AUC warranty is because it doesn't cover centre caps...
I'd be more worried about, erm, every other single thing on the car that can actually break and cost £££, and isn't easily rectified with a £5 part, and doesn't cause anything but mild embarassment on a concours entrant
