BMW E89 2010 35i M Sport - Fuel pump failure? (Fuse #70 keeps blowing)

Hi forum!,

First post.

Recently my car 7 speed DCT Z4 has been stalling out whilst driving. Under the first problems it was two fuses blowing (number #70 - 20 amp):

First fuse: low speed, flow fuel
Second fuse: high speed, low/medium tank

However, my car again stalled out on the motorway whilst driving again at high speed/full tank, this time it wasn't the fuse but my car. The car won't idle and now just cranks. And every time I unlock the car I fail to hear the sign of a fuel pump engaging.

Could this be one of the following:

- Fuel pump failure LPFP/HPFP?
- EKPM3 fuel pump control unit failure?
- Fuel pump circuit relay failure?
- Or something entirely else?

HPFP is powered mechanically off the engine…

It would suggest the EKPM has failed and taken the fuse with it..

The LPFP is usually reliable.

Lack of noise suggests LPFP has failed or it’s circuit..

You need a decent code reader to see the status of the EKPM

So am I right to say that when unlocking the car the LPFP engages only if the EKPM3 working nominally?

Do you know where I might be able to access the EKPM3 module?

Correct, the EKPM controls the flow rate from instructions from the DME…

AFAIK this is a list of parts..they are pretty cheap on eBay used..

It sits in the boot on the RHS behind the trim..held on with a single bolt..pretty easy access for a Z4..

I've order a second hand EKPM3 module just in case.

Realised that I let my battery voltage drop to low from countless cranks which resulted in the FRM going on the fritz. Just had it flashed, and now going to plug BMW code reader in to check whether the fault lies with either:

- LPFP
- HPFP
- EKPM3 module
