Trying to help out a friend who has a E46 with BMW Navigation System with cassette player, one of the text type and some sort of player (not sure if it cd or dvd player, no mention of dvd on it) in the boot. She was thinking of buying a different headunit as they can't even listen to cd's in the car, a colleague has an ipod connector from his old E46 which she can have. what are her options? she doesn't want the navigation thing, is there anyway she can just unplug the older player in the boot and plug in a cd changer or connect the ipod adapter?

Strangely the non-Nav systems after 2003 did play MP3, as part of the 2003 facelift. However, the nav systems were not updated, so they remained MP3-less.

Best/cheapest option is to replace it with an all-singing, all-dancing head unit with MP3/MP4/WMA/WAV/OGG/etc and DAB.
