Just thinking to please someone ...
EDIT [Sp3ctre] - **DELETED***

We have given warnings about posting these sort of links before, please do not do it.

How does the camera files addon work? Ive just used the satnav software which came with my late 07 Coupe, so Ive not had a play around with adding in any camera locations. Does it give a warning as you approach them? Is it 'relatively' accurate?

How easy is it to reload the DVD software?

I will leave this open, as there is discussion of how to integrate the camera database, but any more references to torrents or illegal downloads in general and this thread will be locked.

Is it worth it anyway for an unstable disk whilst the upgrade is only £99?

Depends how frequently you wish to change.. i always "test" the 6 montly updates.. various places I go are mid-development and it can make a big difference, Bristol city centre for example.

you also can't buy the Speed Camera modded ones - they come in as POIs, but when you search for them the first time, the icons then stay on the screen. They don't beep when you get close or anything, but they are quite obvious as you're driving around.

I have to say, I've made something like 5/6 disks to try and have never had a problem with any.

A very helpful resource for this is:

One thing that does interest me whilst im here.. is that the very latest IDrive models are getting hard disks now, instead of DVDs. I would guess then, that the new Z4 will end up with Connected Drive - or Google / GoogleMaps, on it's screen. That kind of thing could tempt me...

How would one go about accessing this 'ConnectedDrive' system?

I'm sure the dealer I got my Z4MC from said it had it as he said something about once the phone was paired with the car i could use the screen to get info on restaurants, hotels, festivals, etc. from the 3G connection on my phone.

I've been to the website to register as a new owner, but didn't get any confirmation email or anything.

Mmm, interesting.... with a lot of mobile plans having unlimited data nowadays, this sort of thing would be very appealing...

theres a nice big supplement on it in the latest BMW magazine. the latest sat nav uses googlemaps views of the streets, will ultimately feed traffic reports back / forth and will allow you to google places as well.

in the z4 MK4 system, there is plenty of info on hotels and stuff, but no way to link up to your phone for using data.

that said, with the voice control linked with the bluetooth module, its still pretty cool to tell the car to find you a nearby hotel, then call it :)

Sorry I'm a newbie to Z4s so have lots of questions.

So what's the system that the dealer was talking about then which needed to have my phone attached with an unlimited data package so that I could get all this info - he also said I could talk to a real person to get directions, reviews, etc.? Although he did say I might need updated nav software to access all these features - that's why I ordered the 2009-1 DVD upgrade for £99 from them!

That is connected drive - I have that. You go to your web browser, give instructions where you want to go and they download it to the car.

Ok, So the version of Nav in the Z4 is Mk4...

If I was to obtain the 2009 Mk4 DVD disc, is it as simple as just popping in the disk and booting it up?

I suppose if there was a problem with the disk or if the data didnt load you could easily enough regress to the older version by just popping the old disk back in... (at least I hope so..)

Cheers

yep.. pretty much that simple.

very recently they have started putting the files onto larger DL DVDs, so if you get a DVD that is bigger than 4.8gb you may need a firmware update to use it - unlikely though. EVen if you do, you can source the CD for that easily and it's a very simple process to do - all on the link I posted above.

But yes, swap the disk and it will work :)
