BMW designing a V6 for the next M3??!!

Can we please have the old M3 V8 engine in the E89 so it would be a nice upgrade from the E85 :D

Hmmm, rumour only I suspect. As mentioned in the article, what have they to gain by going from V8 to V6?

Havent had the pleasure of driving or being a passenger in the V8. The E46 6 pot was a joy. I exepct the V8 is better? Can anyone confirm from experience?

Yes, I can.

Just the noise is enough for me to sign if they made it in the E89 ...

I would definitely say it will be a similar story in the M3 as it was in the M5. Although i would be surprised if it was a V6 more likely a straight six. Like the 1M it will probably be a variation of the newer 3.0 twin turbo. Forced induction, I love the NA BMW engines but still would love to have a go in the new m5 with BMWs forced induction mastery. Turbos are one way of increasing the output of the engine so they can use smaller cleaner engines so we arnt paying so much for tax which would be awesome for everyone, the fact the 335 is only £260 is amazing for its performance. I am generally excited about the new forced induction engines. I know die hard fans will be massively disappointed to move away from NA but times change and direction changes too! Similar to Porsche with water and air cooling, sometimes change is necessary and in this case i would have to agree.

Convincing article. However, V6 will always remind me of Golf R32 or Audi A3 V6. Hard to associate with a prestigious car like the M3. Sounds like a step backwards from V8....
