BMW dealerships and my remote roof

First of all sorry, I'm sure I'm meant to add this on to an existing thread but I pretty useless at all this Internet stuff..

It was just to say that even though my dealership said point blank it was impossible to program a remote roof control on an 03 Z4 it was done today, it was a 350 mile round trip to autotechperformance in Telford but well worth it.

Now why wouldn't my dealership just do it?

mine works too :D

dealer either dont have the right equipment or hide behind Health and Safety BS :(

indi's have no trouble though :D

Forgive my ignornace on the matter (I should really doa search on this!), but I've seen some modules around that have to be wired in to do this - are you saying it's actually a function thats built into the car, but it's disabled in the software?

If so, I think I know what my first mod will be, purely as it'd be really cool to do!

(yes, it might be the first mod even before joining the 'stubby aerial appreciation society' !)

Yeap indeed it's programmed in then turned off.. Newer models can have it turned on by the dealership but pre face like my 03 have to go to a specialist who showed me all the options and let me pick what I wanted..

Other things I had done were the passenger window is now one touch up daylight running lights (cause I love xenons), the seat position is done by which key you are using, oh and the one I'm most pleased with, the car chirps and flashes on lock/unlock

its a £12K unit the guy has in Telford so unless your feeling flush!!,
He is 5 mins from me and did mine too. BMW won't do it, its not that they can't. However I have the Reinhold module now so I can open or close the roof with 3 presses on the keyfob. saves having to stand there holding the keyfob buttons, :D

So it is programmable through progman then just that the dealer doesnt like doing it? I think mine would charge me around £100 to code anything and i wouldn't get a list of what i could choose i would need to be specific. I thought the dealer was only meant to charge £40 for setting options, i cant remember where i read that.

I did ask the tech about getting the indicators to flash and a beep when locking but he didnt know if it was possible on the 03.

I think you'll find it more likely that BMW decide based upon model and market what options can be coded using their equipment. Not that the dealer choooses not to. Over recent years several companies have got ever better at understanding the BMW system and launched their own equipment to read and code. Carsoft, autologic etc.

In terms of what can be coded firstly you handbook lists most with a symbol and failing that the dealer can print a full list of what is posible for the car and each key. I've posted my list a few times on here if you search

They can charge what they like as it's based upon tims and labour rates.

Local dealer did my car and keys a couple of years ago for everything I wanted. Roof uses the Reinhold open/close and one touch modules. (I actually prefer the 3 blips of the key than holding the key button)
