BMW Dealership - rim damage

Hi all,

Left my E89 (2014) in with BMW (Berry Heathrow) for two days: MOT, inclusive service, and a warranty issue.

I'm pretty pedantic when it comes to my wheels, as the alloys (Diamond Cut) are only a month old; so I tend to check the car over before taking it from the garage. This time, with the eye of an eagle I saw a very small (few mil) gash on one of my alloys.

I went back in and called the Service Manager out to take a look, he checked the cameras, but as it's so small he couldn't notice at what point or how it was caused. It's not on the outer edge so it's not been curbed.

He said he would call me after speaking to their repair guy, nearly a week later and no call received.

He seemed to imply that the small area can be repaired without doing the whole wheel... is this true, even though they are diamond cut? I thought they had to be put on a lathe regardless of the damage.

It's annoying, but the longer I leave it, the more I think 'can I be bothered to pursue it'... it is only a few mm.

Does the wheel have a kerb protector on it?

Doesn’t look like a diamond cut wheel in the pic, but a plastic cover.

They are 'two-tone': finished in Gunmetal with Polished Face and Gunmetal Inserts.
Definitely Diamond Cut.
 
Did they send you one of those 'walk round' inspection videos? - if they did can you see it on that before they started work?

I've had a few days with Main Stealer rubbish - you can't argue with stupid or someone whoe's not prepared to listen to your complaint. Sadly I think name and shame on social media is often the only route to making you feel better. Keep fighting otherwise not facing up to it by the garage works and they'll keep doing it :x
 
Ask yourself the question, if you had damaged the wheel on one of their cars, would they give you grief?

They will get it done at trade so will cost them a pittance.

[ref]ronk[/ref], yep, the gashes you see above where you highlighted. So don't think it touched the lacqued part, fortunately.

Can you 'properly' repair a small section of a diamond cut alloy, or do you need to lathe the complete surface? I thought the latter, but BMW told me they could just repair it.
 
Let them repair it - as long as it’s to your satisfaction.
If you leave it then it will soon look shabby

Must be my phone. The area looks cream in colour. A little like a rim protector.

My thoughts too. Looks like the cream bit sits proud of the alloy as well, the marks look like plastic too. Strange

Looks like a plastic rim protector on my screen too. How odd

Its poor that they have damaged it and they should sort it out
 
For all the haters out there, thought I'd include the entire wheel :poke:
