BMW Dealer Service Prices

You buy an expensive car - it will cost a fair bit to run. Sad, but true.

I have my doubts about main dealers for various reasons, but would still go there for simple services etc as it helps with resale value.

I wouldnt bother taking my car to BMW for any major work. Both times I've taken the zed to a main dealer I've ended up paying for c.£700 worth of repairs OR paying less than £700, but getting a quote for £700 worth of non essential repairs. They once re-wired a rear light module for me, and used brown cable on EVERY wire. Yes, very helpful. An apprentice electrician with a handy cap could've done a better job.

I'm not sold on main dealers, but agree that we have choices. Let's make choices and not grumble :)

C'mon guys you have to look at what the main stealers are offering-a vac and wash!

I bet they also throw in a free sachet of windscreen wash at those prices. :D

andysat, fair point !

I figure as inspection 1 includes bmw specific checks its a good idea to get it done by a specialist.

just wait to till you see my bog standard oil change price.

I thought I would post this for a good laugh, I think some of the BMW dealers have completely lost their marbles!

I enquired what the cost would be for an Inspection 1 and Inspection 2 service (on my 2.5i 2003 Roadster) at my local Barons BMW (Farnborough) and this is the email I got back:

An inspection 1 is £373.80 includes parts, labour & VAT

An inspection 2 is £515.21 included parts, labour & VAT

All prices are based on our 4 year plus programme.

Glad to see they gave me the "cheaper" 4 year plus programme prices (I assume they are cheaper than the "normal" price)!

Is it just me, or are they mad?

£373 is exactly the price Chandlers quoted me for my Inspec 1 on my old car 2 ish years ago. They price matched another BMW dealer at £199.

As my car is now six years old I will be getting an ///M specialist to do mine.

I have no trust in my local main BMW dealer at all.
As far as servicing goes, I let them do an annual oil change and everything else I do myself and keep all receipts.
I mean £390 to change the plugs and the air/pollen filters - get a grip!
£60 in parts and less than an hours work.
The thought of constantly getting fleeced have changed my opinion driving wise.

Well.......all I can say is that it seems like I'm not the only one annoyed with BMW Service and Prices! It's a shame BMW don't see this and do something about it......

For my next service I'll probably be using BMW to get my car on their warranty scheme just for the year.

Thereafter.... I'll be using my good mate Andy (Brunswick garage) to look after my M.

His premises are up there with very best indy & BMW franchise garages if not the best.
