BMW Dealer - £120 to diagnose fault under warranty

I've got a couple of things I wanted checked out under warranty, first if any can be done to adjust windows to cut down wind noise at speed, a small bit of pressure on the window at the top between front and rear window reduce stuff a lot, but I don't know if this is normal for an E89. The other is to look at damage on leather on side of driver seat which looks scratched broken, car is 9 months old and has done 7000 miles so I'd not expect this. I'd expected BMW dealer to take the car in have a look and report back on what they can /cannot do. Instead they said if they did that and it turned out not to be warranty claim they would bill me £120. Is this normal should I try another dealer in the group or another dealer all together?

On a new car warranty, they should do almost anything for you FOC. If its AUC or insured warranty (which it won't be in this instance) yes they'll charge you.

I'd find another dealer and try again or speak to the same one and tell them its a new car and you don't expect to pay for things to be fixed that are faulty.

Hell no they're trying it on as Maniac said they shouldn't charge you for anything.

Mine went in 3 times as I was worried about an engine whine when cold but each time they couldn't find any problems. I didn't get charged anything for them too look at the car.

+ 1 I'd contact BMW direct and complain :sos:

Yes they should do this for no charge what a cheek had a seat side replaced on my 3series when I had it with no problems and that was a AUC car not a brand spanker like yours also had fuel pump replaced on theZ no probs and other issues delt with no probs.

Had several AUC cars in the past and every single one has needed to go in for warranty work.

However, are they saying that if they don't find any faults they want paying for their time, as if they do find a fault, then they can charge it all to warranty?

Did have the seat base bolster on Debs car replaced last year, but thats still on new car warranty. They said they had to strip it down to take photos for the warranty, but if the warranty rejected it, then I'd need to pay and as they'd stripped it down then it had to be done!

Used to be that the AUC warranty would cover everything that the new car warranty does, and you could take the car in for anything (apart from brake discs etc). Seems they are cost cutting more and more.

Thanks everyone, maybe it was just the young guy I was speaking with being over keen. I'll going to email service manager tomorrow and see what he says, they've been excellent until now so.....

kevinmarkwhite, yep he said that if bmw new car warranty don't pay then they will charge me time for diagnostics stripping down etc!

I think £120 is a bit steep. I normally get charged £65 for a diagnostic. The wind noise at speed seems to be an issue with the latest frameless window bmw's. I had a e92 coupe with the same problem and it's very irritating! A quick fix seemed to be gummi pflege on the window seal.
