BMW Coded Keys

I'm having a bit of an issue with the girl I bought my Z from. She text me about 3 weeks ago to say she's found a 3rd key for the car (no idea why there are 3) she said she would post it to me but she hasn't and now she's bleeting on about not having to to send it because I've already bought the car

Surely if you find a key you pass it on to the new owner. Anyway after a few heated text messages and putting her straight on a few things I've no idea whether I will receive it or not, as I said its been 3 weeks.

As for security, I'm not overly concerned as she's lives 500 miles away and I'm moving house

But a few questions, can BMW delete a key from the car? Or set the 2 keys up I have to a different frequency?

:headbang:

i have read that you can disable and enable keys using DIS software but best to take it to the dealers to sort out. The 3rd key will still get you in the car via the lock but wont start it once disabled.

Remind her you know where she lives, and that if you're ever in the area you might drop in

Indeed, the thing is I will go there again at some point towards the end of the year.

Now she's asking me for postage to send it, that's fine, she doesn't have paypal. Never buy a car from a female again.

Hmm well Ocean BMW have told me today that they can't delete the key from the cars computer. Only the garage where the car came from can do it, which I have no idea who that is.

Can anyone shed some light on a possible solution? It looks like I'm not going to get this key from girl as its turned into a bit of a slanging match.

Security wise I'm not worried, she has a postal address for me which is not my home, cars garaged also has a disklok but I'd just like the key and I'm more pissed at the fact she's not bothered about sending it.

I know this doesnt really help you but she sounds like a bit of a head case, am struggling to understand why someone would tell you they've found a third key then moan about having to post it.

On the bright side though shes 500 mile away :)

I think I would send her a stamped addressed Jiffy bag and pray!

Have offered this today with £10 inside for recorded postage, no response as of yet.

It might just be a case of I have to forget about it.

She comes across as a nutter, completely different person from who I met. Her opinion is I've bought the car with 2 keys I should be happy with that - why does she need to hang on to it...

Well, it is true you cannot delete a key, there's a limited number of permanent memory slots in the EWS immobilisation module. However, you can disable a key through DIS so that it will not start the car. It remains in memory. Anyone with DIS can do this, all the data is stored in the car's EWS. You do need all the current keys in order to identify the missing key. If Ocean BMW would not help you, they just don't want to, it's not that they can't.

You can delete any keys with Autologic - I had Jason at BW Chiptune delete all the other keys, as I was only supplied with one when I bought the car.

It's not just women Mark, I bought mine from a scrote who made his ol' man sell the car who was useless. The car was in a poo state hence the cheap deal I got. Your grille has been sent btw, dont know if you got my message.

Yea just read it now, thanks Steve 8)

Well I'm all sorted, kind of.

I wasn't confident in what the girl from Ocean BMW was telling me on the phone so I stopped by on the way home to double check.

It turns out I can remove the key from the car memory myself with reprogramming the 2 remotes I have as they will set up on a new configuration number. This will do for the time being, the cars booked in now to have the 3rd key deactivated from the immobiliser and also go through the personal options on the key, as there's a few things I would like switched on.

I'd still like the key to turn up, but if it doesn't then so be it.

Still, I feel better about the situation but a bit dissapointed by her behaviour to be honest.

Thanks for all your inputs 8)
