BMW charge for sanitizing after service

Interesting post from another site by someone saying their dealer wants to charge £15 for sanitizing their car after its service :?

Unsure if the cost is mandatory or if you can request the car not to be sanitized if you don't wish to pay the fee but then I guess dealerships have to sanitize vehicles according to Gov't guidance. I didn't think they would charge you for it though

What a joke.

Like you could trust anyone else to 'sanitize' ur car anyway. What exactly does it constitute? A quick wipe down of the steeringwheel with an antibacterial spray and cloth they used on multiple other customer cars?
FFS do me a favour!

Mines due a service in July and will book a collection and delivery so if they want to charge for wiping the steering wheel down I'll tell them I'll do it myself once the car is dropped back home :|

Mine’s going in on the 17th of June and was told there was a charge of £15 to sanitize it.
No explanation apart from it had to be done. Think its very steep.

Tell them I has been self isolating in the garage for 12 weeks and kept away from any other makes inc those far easter makes and will only be driven to the dealership in the BMW lane with no use of the indicators to reduce the risk of catching anything or being caught by anything

Our Boxster is getting serviced in a couple of weeks at a Porsche main dealers was told by them they use a ultra violet cleaner- no charge

I think someone who enjoys arguing for a living needs to be made aware of this. There's no way anyone should be paying for their car to be safe from covid-19. Disgraceful behaviour really. They'd have been better off increasing the servicing costs, rather than add on a surcharge for some baby wipes.

I would not want them to touch my car with wipes. Worst case, drive it to me house in the garage, leave it for a few days and all good

I guess if you refuse to have the car wiped down then the dealer can refuse to work on it, also what if it was proved you had caught Covid off the car after a service, could you sue the dealer :? crazy as it sounds.

Agree it takes the biscuit and is shameful really but I guess they have to claw the money back somehow.

Tim.

Just had my X1 in at the stealers for its very first service. No mention or charge for any sanitizing :? . This was 4th May & they'd only just opened for servicing the week before. All social distancing measures in place & no direct contact with anyone or anything, keys had to placed in an envelope when dropping the car off for instance. All staff wearing rubber gloves etc. Couldn't fault them tbh.

This about sums it up now

Seeing what some chemicals can do to the finish of interior trim I wouldnt want them to wipe parts down in case it damaged anything.
Cant they just wear a new pair of gloves when inside the car, this would only cost a few pence instead of £15.

Wear gloves, cover the seats with plastic and STOP TOUCHING ALL THE BUTTONS. When I get the car back, it seems that someone has to literally touch everything. Fan speeds, memory seats, mirrors, screen switched off. I always have to spend ages to get the car back to how I left it.

Where on earth do you take your car :o ? I'd go mad if mine wasn't pretty much as I'd left it  . I've had the seats moved but just put it back on the memory button. Never had any of the other stuff touched that I can recall :?

Drive it home with some latex gloves on then leave the car alone - the bug doesn’t live on surfaces forever.

I have a couple of holiday cottages that I let out. Once we are up and running again (July hopefully) our cleaning company are offering a ‘fogging’ service in addition to the normal turnround for an extra £50 each time. It covers all surfaces with an antiviral mist.

I’m waiting to hear if there are going to be any official guidelines.

I’ve just had mine back from insp 2 ... no charge on the invoice for sanitising.

They had a great system working for drop from and collection, and they pre warned me the outside hadnt been washed.

The only problem... it was covered in bird mess, and it’s left a mark that I need to try and polish out now. I have never left bird mess on it in 7 years, and rent a garage to keep it in

Not good Tom and I would be really hissed off if my dealer parked my car on its side
