I've joined too after seeing the stand at the Classic Car & Restoration Show at the NEC a couple of weeks ago; I've almost made the membership fee back already in discounts so I can't complain!

The forum is a bit ... odd though. Some of them aren't updated for years at a time!

I'm wondering whether to take part in some of the events that they've got arranged, or whether that would just be a bit of a damp squib...

Like all clubs, what you get out depends on what you put in.
