BMW Battery or Aftermarket?

Well my car failed to start yesterday, after having my laptop connected for an hour while I was playing with NCS-Expert. Apparently my battery health is poor. I had to put the battery on a charger to get it started. After starting and giving it a good run, I checked the battery voltage, it was only 12.23V. (Probably why my top doesn't retract with keyfob).

So, any advantage to replacing with a BMW battery, or is an aftermarket an equal alternative . My battery is a 70ah 760A Exide 525679-10. I can get an AutoCraft Platinum battery H6-AGM for approx. $160. It's the exact same specs as current battery, so I would only have to use INPA to signal battery replacement.

Aftermarket is generally cheaper and will do the same job...

Just make sure whichever you go for comes with some form of warranty.

BMW as such don’t make batteries, they may brand / badge them, Yuasa, Bosch, Varta are some of the big players in the AGM battery market, assuming its an E89 you just need to make sure at a minimum that’s it’s an AGM battery with 70ah min and obviously correct dimensions and battery posts..if you are a keeper of your car then since it’s a once in 7 or 8 year event with a decent battery I would go for a premier range battery, your opinion and others may vary...

Given how heavily used and how critical it is to an E89s systems I’m frankly amazed how many people cheap skate this item, if you are moving the car then you probably don’t care..

I'll give the dealer a call tomorrow and determine their price. Most car dealers in the US give very competitive prices on batteries and tires, not sure about BMW. Most want to get you in the door for the free multi-point inspection where they can grab other work. At this point the AutoCraft Platinium AGM H6 760 battery looks like the best deal.

The garage if they fit it should do the re-code as well

I thought my AGM had a pipe going through the floor, will check tomorrow.

That’s the emergency vent for the pressure relief valve if you do abuse it...saves cracking the case

I got lucky. Dealer sold me a BMW AGM 70AH battery for a great price. Only $172 including tax. I just installed it and used INPA to register it.
