Picked up my z4 today after bieing in sytner cardiff with the sticky steering problem and bmw have refused to help due to the following { the car was bought in the uk from a uk dealer and not registered here the buyer was from southern ireland and took it over there , the buyer was a company and it was not registerd in southern ireland due to the buyer going bankrupt , It was then bought by a consultancy company in nothen Irland and registerd there for the first time it was serviced at a main bmw dealer in county down the car was then p/ext in for a range rover sport , sytner's in cardiff asked me where the car was bought from originaly as they cant trace it on the database as it was not registerd by a uk dealer , what I cant belive is that this car canot be traced by bmw and they cant tell me who the supplying dealer was they can't (or won't) even tell me what country it was deliverd to by using the chassis number can any one on here tell me how to trace the original dealer . :headbang:

on the plus side if you see a transporter loaded with brand new bmw's just help yourself because bmw dont know where they are where they are going or who they belong to or do you think the above is just an excuse not to pay any good will
I still love the z4 just driving it home put a big smile on my face , I have only just bought it from a non bmw dealer so I have my three month's warrantee but I still think bmw should be fitting new parts foc to all affected z4's

Hmmm. The car was originally exported, so presumably the only detail Sytners could access would be UK cars registered over here? There may be a 'deeper' database that BMW GB may be able to access, but you've got to ask what's in it for them? It's a non-uk supplied vehicle (to them) so the rules are don't touch unless you're fronting up some wonga. If you're expecting warranty work, they won't touch it with a bargepole as the contract is only for UK cars.

Any use?

Is your car over 3 years old? From the picture shown, your car has pre-facelift headlights. So I think your car has no New Car Warranty. What warranty does your car have?

simply put this is a uk car that was exported to southern ireland not registed there two month's later brought back into the uk and registed in the uk as brand new (northen ireland is in the uk) if Can find out who the suplying dealer is customer service will consider a good will claim on my car and £1500 is not to shaby just becouse this car was taken out of the uk for two months and not used is no reason why my car shoud be treated no differently to a car that has spent its life in the uk

another eg what if you bought a car in the uk moved to Ireland for six months and registerd your car there then moved back to the uk would this void the warrantee ?

where did you buy it from ?? private or dealer ?

I bought the car from a small dealer so I still have the three month's warrantee but to be honest I think bmw should face up and recall these cars this is a common fault and is dangerous they are are replaceing collum's in the US are our lives worth less ?

Watchdog ran a feature on the Mini recently where the PAS pump started smoldering resulting in smoke being emited from the bonnet etc, this is also a big problem on older cars, but BMW wont recall them saying it's not a safety issue.

This is the problem with car manufacturers, they will try and get out of these issues if they can. :(

Have you rung BMW UK Customer Services? They are usually pretty helpful.

Our car is similar, it was registered in Northern Ireland and brought over here by Sytners in High Wycombe, it is still wearing the NI plate but it does show at all the dealers via reg or chassis number.. I was concerned about this but I have been told and have a letter from BMW GB stating it is not import specification and is a UK car.

The log book states no previous owners but it also says it was first registered here 18 months after it was 'born'.

So they didn't outright refuse the goodwill, just they don't feel it is a UK car? I might drop ours off and see what they say about it...

Why can't you go back to the non-BMW dealer and get them fix it? Buying BMW from non-authorised dealers is risky.

I bought the car from a small family run dealer he has aggreed to repair the car but I feel that this is an inherant problem and shold be put rite by bmw, I run my own bissness and I would not like to face a two grand bill for somthing that is the fault of the manufacture ,I belive in being fair and I will try and get the repair done throug bmw first and as far as not buying from bmw I saved three grand so even if I had to pay for it myself I am still better off.

Haha, I wish I could go chasing BMW about my 108's corrosion 5 years later :D

Sticky starter motor.

Manifold flap thing failing.

The vortex seperator clogging up and blowing the manifold caps off.

It is a common fault, but it is ultimately a worn item too. If it was under 3 years old, you won't expect wear and tear, but it IS over 3 years old.

Am I missing something?

If you buy privately, you can save a lot, but you have no comeback - the saving should cover any problems you have.

If you buy from a garage, you can save a bit, and you have some comeback - the saving should cover anything not covered by the garage.

If you buy from BMW, you pay a premium, but you get a year's warranty - the extra cost covers this.
