BMW aircon regas

Having my aircon regassed by BMW... it's still working ok, but probably never been done, so worth having it done.

Will they also do a de-odourising cleany thing when they do it as part of the service, or will I need to ask seperately? The service people on the phone just seem a bit hard to talk to, they seem to go by tick-boxes rather than ACTUALLY knowing what they are talking about (worryingly)

Is it the dealer actually doing it, or do they contract it out to a 3rd party and charge you for the privilege - it shouldn't cost more than £50 or so to regas

There's a 'menu' available on the BMW website which gives you the two options available from most dealers.

As stated above, it should be emptied, pressure tested (usually with a UV dye & light to check for leaks), and then filled.
It is 'against the law' to recharge a known leaking system as they're effectively dumping the stuff into the atmosphere.

However, they may have a 'cheap' base price for a regas, knowing full well that you'll need the servicing and deodorising (at extra cost) too.

Think yourself lucky - they probably charge double for special ///M-rated deodoriser.

I've never heard of doing a "regas". If it's not leaking, why bother? Do the newer, non-chloro-flurocarbon coolants degrade?

I did say I wanted it to stop being smelly, so I guess they have quoted both services in.

I'll ring again and check, and also ask if they contract that out and the actual price for that one service. Happy to have BMW do it if they do it internally, since there is more come back if they do a shite job
