My ocd says as the number gets bigger so should the car! It would be stupid to rebrand the 3 series saloon as anything else, but to me a '4' should be bigger than a 3 and smaller than a 5! Exceptions allowed for cars starting with X, M or Z however.
Who gives a Shiite what they call it if it looks good and drives good. Whatever they end up calling it, surely it can't be as bad as this s-drive, x-drive nonsense.
I wrote a big forum rant (on another BMW forum) last year when BMW announced their intentions to introduce a slightly softer ///M range branded as M Performance vehicles. I compared it to what Audi do with S and RS vehicles which has always seemed logical to me but BMW's proposal didn't. Now that I've seen 1 or 2 M Performance cars I now get it and I like what they have done. The M Performance cars can be a bit softer (in the way quite a few modern ///Ms have been IMHO) which means the the all out ///M cars can now be all out kick you in the spine hard bastard nutter cars like the e46 M3 CSL.
Shifting coupes to a different number set may be breaking with tradition but I can see it making sense. The next 1 coupe is going to be the 2 series. they then have an X of every saloon series and a GT which seems to be the equivalent of Audis sportbacks, supposedly there is going to be an urban for saloon numbers as well. All pretty simple really..... apart from the 6 series gran coupe..... which has no opposite in any number and isn't even a coupe.
i quite like it although it could benefit from some m styling tweaks..... it looks a bit like the audi a5 coupe... not a bad thing but they could of done something new
