BMW 3 series 318 d weird accident

I'm thinking diesel spill. The only time I've ever spun was when there was diesel spill on a roundabout on the A14. You get no warning, it's hard to spot and virtually impossible to correct. I'm just thankful you came out of it unscathed!

I was travelling up the M1 this evening near Leicester Forest East services and the matrix signs were on warning off debris in the road. In the following 5-10 miles i must have seen 15 cars on the hard shoulder with flat tyres so I reckon some wagon had been dropping nails!!

They never traced the Vauxhall Cavalier driver, probably oblivious what he left behind.

:o
And also, what were the small silver car and small white van doing just before at about 0:34??! :poke:

Some of the people seemed too close together. It's so important to leave sufficient space between yourself and the car in front, giving you a better chance of stopping if danger arises or the person in front brakes suddenly / has to stop. It annoys me when I try and leave good amount of space and some p*ick somes along and with no notice or indication zips into the space - :poke: inconsiderate drivers  .

Interesting people happened to be filming at that time TitanTim.

My Z tried to spin going up a motorway to motorway slip road a couple of years back. It was bouncing down with rain (out of nowhere) but I managed to "catch" it and have experience with tuition of car handling.

I was going around a left hand bend at around 60mph (drive this route every day) and i was discombobulated as to what had caused this.

It turned out, the rain was hitting the floor and instantly freezing - one of my best mates has a degree in geography (or something along those lines) and said it was possible when I described what I had observed immediately after the "drift"! - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freezing_rain

What was the air temp when you crashed?

I was looking at cars coming towards me out the passenger window - slow motion!

I remember the film clip at the time, I think it was shown on the BBC News. The Cavalier driver actually did an amazing job or was just very lucky in not running into the back of someone and then managing to avoid hitting anything before back on his merry way lol.

Wow :o

It's amazing how the pileup keeps happening in the background all the way to the end of the video - near the end an artic ends up sideways across all three lanes ! Back in 1991 too - not much traction control or many airbags about in most cars on the roads back then I'd bet...

The insurance company told me that the money will go straight to the finance. I was thinking that if i get the money i can buy another car.. but in this case i need to do another finance and you know how it is.. if you get accepted....

I am sure the most probable cause of your accident was aqua planing.

That's a possibility but surely you'd notice the water? It would have to pretty deep for that to happen, especially if the OP was only doing 65mph.

that is the problem. it was just a small spot of water. I heard that sound like when the tyre is hitting the water .. but i never saw a huge splash of water..... actually id didnt see any splash at all.

I've experienced a bit of aqua planing with only a damp road on the M25, i must have caught a cats eye or some leafs, with a slight bank making me steer inwards and the rear of my 1 series was all over the place- lucky i have no one in the middle lane really.

Tough to say what caused it, but by the sounds of it thankfully you are ok.

That's good news isn't it, the finance payments will be dealt with by your insurance? Wouldn't it be bad if they gave you a lump sum for the value to replace now and it wasn't enough for the rest of the payments?(Mind you would GAP insurance come in then). What about the GAP insurance, is there any shortfall?

I do not have any GAP insurance. Thats the main problem. I will have to pay for the gap .. that means that no more finance till im done with the gap.

Hi Guys

Ok i tried to investigate further what happened.

So the road was wet but not big pots of water. The car cannot spin from a small water spot. It is impossible.

When i started to spin the brakes stopped working , the wheel was frozen and airbags went on before the impact. Was it normal?

TBH I don't think you will ever get to the bottom of it now. These things happen so fast I doubt your recollection is correct.
