BMW 3.0 2003 coolant leak

Hi everyone thank you admin for excepting my request to join new owner of a 3.0 manual z4 , my first time ever on any forum but looks brilliant with helpful advice , literally owned the car a couple of weeks very happy but yesterday I appear to have sprung a coolant leak very small around the expansion tank area , removed the trim panel but very difficult to see anything, before pulling it all apart is there anything common I should look for ? Many thanks in advance for any advice Mike
 
Hello and welcome to the mad house.
The expansion tanks are well known for getting hairline cracks that only open up when hot and under pressure.
It is also possibly the o-ring seal at the bottom of the expansion tank leaking.
Either way your best answer is to fit a new expansion tank which should come with seals already installed.
Easy to do yourself, many helpful hints on here. Or depending where you are, several people have done their own and would probably help you.
 
Had this with mine. The odd whiff of coolant once the engine was hot and you’d parked up. Turned out to be a split on the expansion tank, that once the water was under pressure leaked. Took a while to pin it down :headbang:

Ive also had exact same issue resolved with replacement tank :thumbsup:
 
Fitted the new expansion tank and now absolutely fine , thank you everyone for all your help it’s really appreciated

No worries.
Now it's not leaking and the car is all back together it would be great to see a proper introduction in the newbie section and a couple of photos.
