How do you know it was a fuse?
Rob

Because I can see the remaining part left in pic is same shape, fuse or capacitor I suppose, 2 of the metal ends left and same faded yellow ceramic middle pice that melted, same as all the other mini ceramic fuses or capacitors, just don't know the amp or size as bmw make sure they have no numbers on them so people can't replace themselves, we'll could be fuse because it's melted as suppose to protect the rest of circuit or could be capacitor but ye need to find out from someone who has knowledge

Actually I think it's capacitor, but anyone who has knowledge let me know any info on there size guides act be appreciated

To be fair BMW won't be making these units themselves, just sourcing from external supplier/s who will assemble from individual components they probably get elswhere. But if you have the knowhow it would be a great money-saver if you can fix it.

Looking back, was there any indication of impending failure? Any water damage in the past?

Something else will have made it blow (a fault somewhere else). Its unlikely to be a fuse. Not many people have the skill or tools to replace surface mount components but without a circuit diagram you are working in the dark sadly.

One way might be to google the data sheet for the IC and try and work out what's supposed to be around it.

Or you could...................ahem............................ask if anyone has a good spare for a forum price.

It's a possibility, but I would defer to Barry first as I wouldn't want to be encroaching on his area of forum input.
