BMW 1M prototype spotted with quad exhausts

I guess all speculation of whether it might be a full blown M version or an "is" or "tii" or whatever is now redundant. Also notice the hack job cooling fins on the back axle as further proof. Cooling a LSD I presume.

Any doubt that BMW is preparing to release an M version of the 1-series can now be put to rest. An M1 / 1M prototype with quad exhausts (a signature modern day M car element) has now been spotted. Until now, skeptics have pointed to the lack of quad exhaust as evidence that this is not an M1 / 1M, but some other higher performance 1-series version (i.e. 135is).

The M3 differential and control arms / links are also very evident in these photos.

I think it'll look alright. The wider track gives it some muscularity that the normal 1er coupe merely hints at. I really like small fast coupes and now that the M3 has grown outwards in every dimension this 1M / M1 is were my hypothetical money would go. I do prefer naturally aspirated engines though...

Never liked the 1 series coupe/roadster... it just looks wrong... like a squashed 3 series. :thumbsdown:

What I like about this one, is it's missing the "bump". I like the M3, but that bump just doesn't look right.

Nothing has been announced but talk is of an upgraded version of the single turbo N55 engine pumping out about 340-350bhp. Weight is said to be around 1500kg. Should be nippy then.

Interested to see more of that.

I started off hating the looks of the 1-series coupe but I'm now quite a fan. I'd happily take a 135i if I needed more seats than the Z4.
