BMW 12 year anti corrosion warranty

Is this still applicable if the car is second hand and does not have FSH? I have a little corrosion on the tail gate.

I'm not the first owner of mine. They did ask to see the service book and I do have full BMW service history. Still worth asking the question though.

Your statement to them should be: What could I have done to influence whether this corrosion did or didn't happen? Missing a service wouldn't change the fact that you have the corrosion.

Here are the specific terms:

To ensure that any Warranty claims are processed quickly and efficiently, please observe the following guidelines.
- Your vehicle should be inspected at normal service intervals as recommended by your BMW service book.
- Paint or body damage identified by the dealer during these inspections, including any to the underside or under body protection of the vehicle, must be properly repaired to BMW standards.
- Claims cannot be accepted for perforation that occurs as a result of unrepaired or improperly repaired paint or body damage.
- Vehicles which undergo major accident repair work during their anti corrosion Warranty period are still covered by the Warranty provided:
a. The correct BMW corrosion prevention methods are used.
b. The repair work is carried outby a competent repairer to BMW repair standards.
- The Warranty does not apply to parts, panels or materials that have not been approved by BMW and the BMW Retailer or Authorised Repairer reserves the right to refuse claims where defects have occurred as a result of using them.
- Where your vehicle has been involved in an accident and requires bodywork repair this should ideally be carried out by a BMW Approved Bodyshop.
 
I had my rear offside wing done where the rust was bubbling underneath . Was carried out under the 12 year warranty . Wish I hadn't have bothered as roof was taken off with some seals and my car is leaking now slightly into the front drivers footwell .
It's gone back a few times and they have replaced some seals around the door frame but still slightly leaking .
Loads of overspray that wasn't cleaned either .
 
Interesting. I guess that's more the result of how well the work was carried out rather than the claim itself.
I'm less concerned about seals as it's bonnet and coupe hatch. Still a chance they could murder the paint job though. Car is still with them so waiting anxiously for the end result!
 
So do you have to have a full BMW SH with fully stamped bodywork inpsection ?
ie is the body work warranty still valid if its been serviced by Indie -surely not
 
I took my 2007 coupe to local BMW dealers today as I have some rust appearing on the inside of the drivers side door and a small spot of rust in the tailgate where others have!

The chap took some photos and will let me know in the week if they will proceed with repair. I have full history ( dealer and independent) but how the hell that would stop rust appearing i'd love to know!
 
I'll be keen to know highway1. Mine has a little bit of paint bubbling on the tailgate, in the same position as those above but nothing significant, but it IS there. Mines a Nov 2006, i guess its worth holding on and waiting for it to develop and get it sorted when its a little older.

Also....Does this warranty cover panels within the engine also? On opening the bonnet, the panel which the plastic cover bolts onto has rusted badly already.
 
Off to collect from the dealer this afternoon, they've had it for a week. I'm nervous about colour/paint match so hoping I don't have to fall out with them!

Anyone else progressed a claim?
 
Coopers BMW in Chelmsford had my coupe for 3 weeks now!! 2 weeks waiting for new tailgate to come from Germany according to them..cant complain really as it is being done free under warranty but looking forward to getting it back this Saturday. :D
 
Well I collected the car today. Verdict...

- Work on the inside of the hatch is very good
- Colour match is excellent
- Didn't realise how tired the front bumper looked until I see what it should have looked like. It looks fantastic.
- The alignment of the front bumper isn't perfect, but I noticed that after I got home so too late by then. It's going into TWG in Camberley for an MOT next week so I'll ask Will to adjust it.

Overall very happy.

I will add that the service manager said that he realised after it was approved that he really should have rejected the claim. His view was that as I've owned the car less than a year, the corrosion inside the hatch should have been visible when I bought it and therefore I shouldn't have accepted the car. Considering it was a private sale I don't agree with that logic but worth being aware of.
If anyone is yet to make a claim, i would suggest that you don't highlight how long you've owned your car just in case they make a thing of it. Some people can be difficult just for the sake of it.

Great news OP!

If the first owner had realised how cr*p it was he would have rejected it! How exactly does the car changing hands affect poor factory finish?

What is it with these people?! :headbang:
 
My coupe has a small rust spot (maybe half the size of a penny) on the inside of the tailgate which seems to be a problem spot- Westerly BMW Bridgwater have rejected a warranty claim as they say it has been "knocked" and so they cant repair it under warranty- this is complete rubbish but I am reluctant to pursue it as I also think they'd do a poor repair so I think i'll just put some decent anti-rust ( maybe dynamax) on it and see how it goes.

I also have two small rust spots on the inside of the drivers door which again they are rejecting a claim as its been "knocked". There is a small ding above the rust spots but they seem to have appeared on untouched metal but again i think i would have no confidence in there repairs but am tempted to let them know that particularly the tailgate rust, is a known issue and they shouldn't be just giving some rubbish about knocks and trying to wiggle out of warranty claims. :thumbsdown:
