Hi All,

Anyone had experience with these BMS Powerboxes? Looking on the net the e90 owners seem to like them and you can pick them up for £170.

They say 10bhp and around 7torques with improved throttle response (i have a sport button for that?)

What does BMS stand for ? Big Massive Shite ? lol

LOL

I hear there is also a company called GFS that claims 20 bhp gains through applying their special pinstriping down the side of your car.

Just fitted the BMS Powebox to my N52 s.

Dynoed before and after and the result:

BHP +19.11 (on-wheel)
Torque +3.5 Lbft
Fuel consumption worse by 15-25% (because running extremely lean before mod)

0-100 - not measured.

Throttle response is much stronger especially mid range. Power surge best >3,500.

^ above post looks suspicious, but hey ho. My initial response is 'snake oil', but tbf it looks like a kind of re-map without an actual remap. I can see it potentially working - a remap would get similar gains.

However all of that said I definitely wouldn't use a device like this. A remap is bad enough - but intercepting and modifying ECU signals? Can't see that going particularly well. Reverse-engineering stuff like this is tricky enough to get right on it's own, but you've got the added issue where the ECU may get mixed signals causing undesired side-effects like incorrect fuel mixture, which would then lead on to engines breaking.

If you really want to go this route, go get your engine remapped from a reputable tuning company that will dyno your car before and after and has some sort of warranty in case the engine goes boom. There was a big issue with remapped Corsas blowing their 4th cylinder when remapped for example - and some tuning companies refused to foot the bill.

Extremely lean or very efficiently? That's a lot of extra fuel for a small horsepower gain. I get more than that just driving down to a lower elevation!

A new member. Please do post some pictures of your car and an introduction in the newbies section. Please also post some pictures of the dyno results and where they were done. We're all interested in this, and would love to see the evidence that this works.... (or not as the case may be)

How much of the flywheel increase made it to the road?
