Hi
I'm getting an airbag light repeatedly

my C110+ scanner gives me this error code -
SBSL satellite B pillar Left
9886 Coding, firing circuit, knee airbag, front left (E85), or head airbag, left (E6x), at variance

Which I can clear and it stays off during the journey
but it comes up the next time the ignition is switched off and on.

the car is an E85
I guess I need to find and mend the knee airbag firing circuit which is at variance
whatever and wherever that is.

suggestions welcome

Have a look at https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=77262

It suggests you need to reset the error code using something like INPA

cheers Perry

It looks like i am going to have to spend some money.
INPA then, next project.
It's like a treasure hunt with negative treasure.

Dunno why we can't have a Yaris...

well I do really.
:driving:

Found a cable shack EDIBAS usb interface and a cd or two in a dreawer

I just need to buy a laptop now.
Oh joy. 20 years I've avoided owning a laptop.
Oh well.

I know you are a geeky lot.
Anyone give me some tips on what to buy?
Watching the budget!

I guess I will need to run the TIS on windows 7?
use Oracle VM virtual box?
Which presumably will be able to access the usb port?

Assuming IPNA is what I have. It says BMWTools on the dvd
You can see why people get BMW to do it for them.

Before you spend money, there may be someone close to you that has INPA and can reset the airbag modules.

It's old software so you don't need anything spectacular - I just use a 7-8 year old laptop with Windows 7 for INPA, NCS Expert etc., the battery's knackered and doesn't last long, but it works fine on mains power. You may even find that family/friends have an old laptop in the attic that's gathering dust...

sadly nothing in the family.
they seem to break all the tech stuff while drunk in charge of a crack pipe :headbang:

ebay it is
unless we have a handy local

You could try mac27040. He's in Liecestershire & has a raft of software programs for these cars. Read this: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=112347.
If you are too far away I have an old but hardly used Win 7 laptop I may be persuaded to part with. Good luck with getting it sorted.

I think the suggestion was that you make use of the Z4 forum family  If I had the equipment needed I'd be happy to help out, so I'm sure there are other forum members who'd do the same.

I don't think INPA (or anything else for that matter) will do anything different to your C110+ when it comes to airbags - the C110+ can communicate with and reset them no problem (but it's important you go right into the "satellite pillar left" menu, not just airbag). I think the issue is you have a genuine fault on the SBSL that you need to sort - the module is located under carpet, beneath plastic sill behind the seat. If it gets wet because of blocked roof drain holes they can give problems. Also worth checking the big yellow connector under the seat, make sure it's firmly home.

If you end up needing a new SBSL module, you will have to code it to the car in terms of VIN (using NCSExpert) and then the mileage and time sync (using ISTAS-P, note ISTA-P won't work). Proper pain in the arse getting all that lot working through a virtual machine.

User mac27040 may still have a module for sale.

Oh dear. Too late! I seem to have bought myself a macbook pro.

Once I've had a happy time playing with it. Polished it.Installed some virtual machines etc. Checked it is proper shiny. -- I'll start to do some real work and see what can be done with the satellite pillar modules. We did have a problem with the roof drains and maybe water got in then. But nevertheless, I feel the gizmo will be useful...

And thanks for the general interest / input. I needed to be reminded about that module. I intended to swap it last MOT. But managed to finesse the inspector with blarney and big hugs.

I'll be back.
