Bluetooth???

Today I attempted to fit and aux cable to my Z4 coupe.

In doing so, at the back of my head unit where in the input connectors are, there are two connector blocks going into the black junction box. Therefore nothing free for the Aux cable.

Does this mean that my car has bluetooth connected? I don't have a CD changer, however there is a strange phone cradle in the storage unit in the rear bulk head (between seats)

If anyone know what this means, that would be really helpful

Thanks

you checked the panel in front of the gear knob, above the ashtray to double check there's not an aux already hidden up there?

I'm sorry to hijack the tread - has anyone fitted one of these? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetooth-Musik-Adapter-BMW-E46-E39-E38-E53-E85-fur-3-6-CD-Wechsleranschluss/253153228002

Looks like the cleanest solution for Bluetooth (I have a basic Business unit with CD changer and a separate AUX but don't care about keeping either)

I am aware that factory BT will not play music, I am try to establish if i can connect my phone for calls.

No my car has no AUX.

I'm trying tyo find out what the cradle between the seats does?

Enter your VIN in vinchecker https://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/BMW/Z4 and that will tell you the spec your car left the factory.

Does the drop down lid of the centre cubby hole between the seats feature a button - for pairing?
Do you have a microphone on the top of the steering column and a MFSW?
These both indicate bluetooth.

Thanks for the info, I will have to check this tonight.

Off the top of my head, I do remeber a button in the drop down lid. And yes there is (what I think) a microphone ontop of the steering colmn shroud.

Happy days - now all you need is a phone that's not too new for it to work!
I believe the latest iphone is a no-go. The latest Blackberry won't work properly either - they will pair and ring in the car but will not route calls through the car :headbang: But my previous generation Blackberry works brilliantly.

I have an iPhone 6 - retro i know.

Will see if it can connect this evening

My iphone X works with the BMW bluetooth so it seems a bit hit and miss if your ‘phone works or not? :idunno:

I have. Works great and just plug it in from the trunk.

Thats for some old Nokia. Just unplug it and istall aux. Or even better, install the BT-reciever mentioned above, in the trunk.
Better sound, better everything.

Thanks - I think I saw you post it here few weeks back but couldn't remember your name. Are there good instructions for fitting? I was expecting it would plug into head unit instead of CD changer?

So, the dock is for an older nokia phone. And I could use one of these BT cables to stream music or just connect phone for voice calls?

Where does this plug into?

No, it uses the 6+3 cables that goes into the cd changer. Bend the carpet up and you will se the two cables going into the changer. The bigger one has a "lock pin" that needs to be pressed down when pulling it out. The smaller on just needs som twerking to it :).
Plug the cables to the BT reciever and turn ignition on. Set the stereo to cd changer and search it up on the phone.
Changing songs works on the stereo or steering wheel buttons.
Sorry for my english, I'm from Sweden ;)

Hi guys,

So this evening I was able to establish that my Z4 does have BT and sync's to my phone.

Questions:

1. Where does this BT-reciever plug into and what functions can it perform? Calls? Music? Both? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetooth-Mu ... 3153228002 . Torpalassee, maybe you can clarify?

2. If i install an aux cable into the back of the headunit, which both slots are taken up, does this mean I will loose the BT functionality?

assuming same as mine, BT calls only. Adding an aux, just remove the pins from the cable's plug and insert into the plug already in the head unit, you then have both functions.

here is your pin out, you are looking for extern R & L and common ground.
