Bluetooth Stereo?

Hi
Just purchased a 2007 2.0 Z4. It's amazing and I love it!
I assumed as there were telephone controls on the steering wheel that I would be able to BlueTooth to my phone!! How naive I am!
So my plan was to purchase a Grom BlueTooth module which, according to their website would give me phone and audio through the existing head unit - Perfect! I've just pulled the head unit out to double check the connections before ordering and it doesn't have the required CD changer port to connect the Grom unit to :(
So, does anyone have any bright ideas where I go from here? I'd love to be able to use hands free and play music from the phone and in an ideal world be able to control everything from the steering wheel. The Grom unit promised all of this but need a changer port on the head unit. Thanks in advance
Stuart

Does the grom unit need a specific type of cd changer connection, as all standard zed head units should be cd ready
Do you have a link to the unit you were going to order

is this the old issue of looking at the back of the unit and not seeing an extra plug when in fact you need to pull the loom out to realise all the seperate plugs are contained within the 1 big plug

This is what I have. Sounds like it might do what you need for a fraction of the price.

Grom - http://gromaudio.co.uk/products/bluetooth-hands-free-and-a2dp-car-kits/bmw-mini-rover-bluetooth-integration-kit.html

The instructions show where to plug it in, which is the blanked off area so i don't think there is another port.

Im struggling to post a picture :headbang:

when you pull the loom at the back of your the stereo out it should look like the attached pic...the cd input is marked on the pic

I'm currently using an old Sony MW600 Bluetooth hands free. It's not one that sits on your ear but one that clips to your clothing and come with a socket so that you can plug in some decent earphones to listen to music from your phone.
I simply plugged one end of an audio cable into this and the other end into the AUX socket and, voila, Spotify and phone calls routed through my crappy 6 speakers. Sound is much better than the FM radio. The battery lasts for ages so I don't usually have it on charge either.

The only critical aspect is placement for phone calls. It has a built-in mic so needs to be thoughtfully placed in order to pick up your voice. It does work, when positioned low down by the AUX socket but I do have to shout a bit.

Tiny piece of kit that cost about £25 some time back.. Just checked, and it now seems improved and bigger (it was almost too small before) but pricier... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Bluetooth-Wireless-Handset-Connectivity/dp/B00EI4FMHA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1453721101&sr=1-1&keywords=mw600+bluetooth+headset

No pins!!! - Thoughts?

the pins are behind the socket, the white plug is the cd input, the big black main plug pulls out and all the different looms connect into the big plug, you need to pull the white plug and stick your new plug in there

no problem

Ok so tonight I have removed the head unit again and this time actually removed the large connector and can now clearly see all the individual connections for the CD changer. Very happy! But......I've also found an AUX in cable that is connected. Any idea why AUX does not come up as an option when i press the MODE button? The AUX option (which I didn't think I had) would make a great temporary solution.

Thanks again in advance

Try plugging a phone or ipod into the aux socket should be as the dash curves down from the stereo towards the roof /seat switches then try selecting it

Thanks but tried that. AUX just wont come up as an option when cycling through with the MODE button

OK, further discovery. if I plug a 3.5 mm jack in to the AUX port and HOLD the other 3.5mm rather than plug it into the phone, when I press MODE I get AUX on the head unit !!!!! Still can't get it to work with the phone though!

Might be to do with the socket on phones have an extra connection for the mic, if your near another forum member that has a working aux set up might be worth meeting up an seeing what's different or if there cable works with your phone in your an if your cable doesn't work with your phone in there car

Thanks for the replys guys. I ordered a replacement AUX cable as from Googling the problem it sounds like a faulty resistor on the cable from the AUX socket to the head unit. BUT............. found this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111685007449?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT which looks promising. Bluetooth for both phone and audio plus AUX and USB and only £55!!!! Bargain if it works. Hopefully delivered tomorrow so I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again

Stuart
