Bluetooth problems

I've got the Bluetooth option on my E85 and whilst I guess the top of the steering column is not the ideal place for the mic I'm not sure where else they could have put it.

Call quality coming in is great but most people struggle to hear me.

Has anyone done anything to improve it? Could my mic be faulty? How about a firmware update?

Callers sometimes struggle in mine to hear me correctly... and the e89s are a touch quieter than e85/e86. Ambient noise and crappy digital signal coverage don't help. I don't think there's much you can do to get around this, hands free is by its nature a bit rubbish in noisy cars like ours as the mic isn't near your mouth. A nice big comfy saloon with lots more sound insulation is the way to go for call quality.

Putting the mike on topo of the column was an improvement from where early cars had it in the mirror housing. BMW did release a better mike, so you could check if you have that fitted.

End of the day ambient noise in a roadster even with the hood up is going to make it less effective than a fully closed solution as Maniac says. Still I can make and receive calls at up to 40mph with the roof down.
