Bluetooth phone prep ---> what next

Hi guys,

I have read a few posts on here and on other forums but have got confused about everything to do with this. I have the bluetooth phone prep on the car, what items do I now need to add full bluetooth functionality? It there a definitive list anywhere? I assume ins the antenna but is there anything else?

I'm beginning to get tempted by the parrot system for ease now!

Cheers

My understanding was that means that the car is fully equiped with the ULF module (in effect the bluetooth module), antennae and wiring to integrate to the audio, speakers, display.

First check:
Do you have Telephone showing on the display
Is there a 'talk button' on th esteering wheel
Is the ULF on the rear firewall behind the passenger seat (a square bulge in the carpet on the lower LHS)
Is there a pairing button?

All you should need to do is pair you phone to it, unless you want a cradle/specific phone combination.

If it's all in situ it would seem a retrograde step to overlay a Parrot system to it.

Hi Jeeper, I was under the same understanding as you but I am no longer sure it is correct.

There are various posts sometime ago from me trying to get everything working. I eventually just came to conclusion that I dont have the ULF because I have all the items you mentioned above except the ULF bulge behind the passenger seat. I think I have seen the photos of this on the forum and it is definately not there.

If you have a definate picture of what I should be looking for I would appreciate it so I can check but I am pretty sure its not there. It doesnt look even as if it has been removed unless the carpet was replaced.

All this has led me to believe that the prepearation is just the preparation and not a fully functioning system but I have struggled to find conclusive evidence to this. :headbang:

Sure - take a look at this thread where I actually retrofitted the entire lot form ULF, harness, antennae, MFSW, etc. into my Zed.

Scroll down and there are pictures courtesy of another member of the ULFcage (but without it fitted) and what the bulge looks like in the carpet. If it's flat and smooth there is no cage even in place. If you have the bulge then lift the carpet and look for the module in the cage (silver coloured about 7" long 4" wide and 1" deep inside that black cage).

If not then I suspect all you have is a harness fitted by BMW

Maybe you just have the multi-function wheel.

With bluetooth you'd either have everything or nothing, there were no intermediate steps such as just the wiring loom or anything.

Takes ages to pair up, if the pairing button is there then would have thought you have it?

Ignition on, press, search. fails. Try another 20 times then sorted.

Im not sure that this is true as i have the pairing buttons on my mfsw and a button with a phone symbol on the CD playerbut i phoned my stealer and asked if my car was blutooth preped and he looked it up and told me it wasnt.

you may have telephone buttons in the MFSW but there is no pairing button on it, the pairing button is in the fold down flap in the centre console.

Fold Down flap? The only fold down bit iv got is where the multi changer and the GPS live, or am i missing something?

Cheers Jeeper, I dont have any of that so I suspect bluetooth prep means I have the wiring in place but not the ULF and its harness. Ebay search commencing

lol, nope no button. Your the man with the knowledge!!!! Ive fitted the parrot with music steaming, its awsome

eyup as CJ10 Jeeper said there is no halfway, the only thing you have for the OEM telephone is the button on the steering wheel.

CJ retro fitted his, and I have sourced all the parts but not fitted as yet.

Wiring Loom
ULF
Bluetooth Aerial
Pairing button
Microphone for steering column

Other parts optional are

cradle
aerial behind rear bumper (no use unless you have a cradle)
