Bluetooth Phone Connectivity

The roadster has the S644 Bluetooth Phone Preparation option and a previous owner had the forethought to scribble the pairing code on the inside of the operating instructions - or at least I that's what I assumed.

Unfortunately it turns out it doesn't work and with the head unit in pairing mode it just keeps returning a failed outcome when I enter the code. I've tried both iPhone and android handsets but the outcome is the same.

Can anyone recommend an alternative approach - is there anyway I can confirm the code is correct?

If you don't have INPA i believe the code is on the bluetooth module in the boot isn't it?

Thanks, I don't have INPA so it looks like I will have to resort to taking out the boot trim. A real PITA with the Z4MR because of the battery location

Where are you?
A local member might help you out.
A few seconds to plug it in. Rather than strip all the boot trim down

Bit the the bullet and stripped the boot - fancied a nosy round anyway to make sure there were no leaks and I also had a BlueMusic adapter to fit which plugs in to the CD prep.

Unfortunately rather than solve the problem I just ended up with more questions. One being the fact I couldn't find the CD connectors :headbang:

Also the pin number on the manual is clearly correct and corresponds with that on the side of the Bluetooth module.

It also looks like someone has been in there and fitted some aftermarket wiring - not sure what for as there is nothing non-standard in the cabin :?

So at this point it looks like I'll be returning the BlueMusic adapter, forgetting about using the BMW Bluetooth capability and putting everything back as it was pretending nothing ever happened

The only positive was confirming everything is bone dry with no signs of water ingress - not that I've ever had a problem with the E85's only the E89's

The Bluetooth passkey is 1773 which is different to what the previous owner wrote down.

you had 0461 on the original post that previous owner had written.
it says 0641 on the module......

I noticed that too, I think the previous owner had a weird sense of humour

Also put your vin number into mdecoder.com to find out if your car was pre-wired for the cd changer.

If it's pre-wired then the plug could be tucked away where you wouldn't expect it to be. They don't usually leave the plug near to where it should be used. (Experience from powerfold mirror plugs )

Thanks for pointing that out. I've succeeded in connecting my phones - I'd missed the bold capital letters that said BLUETOOTH PASSKEY :headbang:

When I looked again I also found the CD changer connections taped down behind the bulkhead so I also managed to fit the BlueMusic adapter

All tidied up and back together

However the BlueMusic adapter is not connecting, not even showing up as an available device. Which I can only imagine is related to that aftermarket wiring. Maybe they bypassed the CD changer :?

Anyway the phone works and I can use the Aux connection so will probably leave it at that for now but I am still intrigued as to what the additional wiring was for.

I also removed the centre console panel and noticed an unattached wiring harness - not sure what it's for but I plugged it back - it's the white one in this photo

I think that plug is for the light in the centre storeage when you drop down the flap.

Make sure the light goes out. Start recording a video on your phone. Pop it in there and shut the flap. Check footage for light going out.

The plug could also be for the lock for the flap.

As you had the carpet out, was there enough space for the tv tuner to against the firewall in the M? The shape looks different to the si where I just fitted the tuner but need to do it again in the M.

Also, did you remove the tray to get the carpet out?

Must be for something else as the light was working before I reconnected the plug- I had a quick look on realoem but couldn't find any reference to it

Push the cd button on the head unit and it should enable bluemusic to be paired to your phone
I don't have a CD button but I did put it in CD mode and that didn't work.
