Bluetooth pairing

Right, I don't seem to have the communications brochure to guide me, so how do I pair a phone to this bloody car..! I hold the button in the centre console down for a few seconds down and nothing happens. Can someone give me a step by step instruction on what to do here??? I have the standard fit bluetooth with no sat nav.

Thanks in advance...Nathan

Get in car, key in position 0, hold down button on centre console (not steering wheel) for 3ish secs, turn key to position 1, hold for further 3 secs and it should come up pairing. Phone will obviously need to be searching too, then you need the activation code which most likely is with your missing instruction book

And once you get it paired you'll find that the microphone in the car us shite and all the people you speak to can barely hear you.

My bluetooth simply refuses to work with a Samsung Galaxy. An older HTC Wildfire almost works but keeps dropping connection. I think the bluetooth in the E85 is just too old for the more recent software stacks in modern phones.

The code is also on the module in the boot - several threads on reading it, or just ask a BMW dealer to provide it.
The microphone can be replaced by a superior one from BMW and also in the case of older Z4's moved from roof to column cowl and it works fine
As Simon notes above works just fine on later gen iPhones.

That's interesting. Can you give any more details?

I've given up with the in car blue tooth because the microphone is so poor.

Not a lot to tell really. On the earlier models the mike was poor quality and mounted in the roof, by the interior light.

Later they introduced a superior Mike and a modified upper column cowling with a housing for it.

I retrofitted Bluetooth so simply wired to the better location and purchased a later gen mike.

No reason why you could not simply reroute to the column or break into the harness where it enters the cab. That you'd need to locate, but likely around the back of the audio would be a good spot.

As an aside I also fitted a latest generation 13 ULF module which gives better sound, more functions and better Bluetooth pairing. Cheap on eBay and a direct swap.

My Galaxy S4 and S5 will not maintain a connection - they will pair, but the connection drops within a second. Highly irritating.

I may have missed this. But is it possible to play music using the Bluetooth connection?
I only got the car yesterday and it paired up fine (although no aerial so won’t let me ring people). But with no AUX I was hoping I could play music via the Bluetooth?

No - it's just to connect voice calls and supress in car audio

Ah, thanks.

I already have the column mounted microphone. Call quality is still terrible.

Had the same problem initially with the s4. Did some googling and came across a suggestion to use an app called 'Bluetooth Auto Connect'. Install it and set it to remember the last connection. If that doesn't work try fiddling with the settings. S4 works every time the engines switches on. Good luck

I shall give that a whirl - thanks!
