Hi,

I've just got a Z4M and was looking for some instructions \ advice on how to pair it to my iPhone 3GS.

The manual has been next to useless and from the web searching I've done it seems a bit of a black art.

Any advice greatly appreciated :)

Cheers

Hello, every time i need to pair a new phone with my M i just follow the instructions on the phone/nav manual and it works fine. I dont remember the steps by heart though.

Turn Bluetooth on on your phone. 1. Press the Bluetooth button on car for 3 seconds, 2. then turn ignition to position 1 (ignition on but engine off) hold the button for another 3 seconds and your phone should then "see" the car. 3. Once it does select the car on your phone. It'll say something like BMW 1234 then enter your Bluetooth code from the manual.
Done!
To be honest mine was temperamental and I had to turn the bluetooth on after just doing step 2 from above and it worked.
It did take several goes :D

BTW On mine I had to hold the button on the phone cradle rather than on the steering wheel.

Yay!

I've successfully paired the phone. Think I'll take some pics of the process as it's a bit weird (compared to the E92 anyway :)).

Went like this

1) The button in between the seats in the drop down console is the "Bluetooth" button. Hold this for 3 secs

2) Turn the ignition key to position 1

3) At this point the NAV screen displayed the elusive "PAIRING MODE" message

4) Go to your phone, you should see BMW#### show up as an additional device (mines initially said headset then changed to BMW#####)

5) Pair device from the bluetooth settings on phone, you'll be asked for the Bluetooth Key that was provided with the car.

6) NAV screen will display "PAIRING...." followed by "PAIRING COMPLETE"

Hit the R/T button on the wheel and it scroll through your contacts.

Awesomeness :)

There you go T1berious, welcome! This is a better place for Z4 tips than Pistonheads. A great bunch of helpful guys & girls on the Z4Forum :)

Thanks for a handy thread. I'd spend a hour faffing with the useless manual. This routine is spot on.

T1berious, could you kindly post a photo of the bluetooth pairing button...I always understood that the button was on the MSFW  . I haven't ever got my car to show bluetooth pairing yet :(.

I have the iphone 3GS snap-in adaptor in my car as well. Don't know if this makes a difference?

I've tried numerous methods and none of them have made it say "pairing mode" nor has it come up on my phone :(.

Sorry about the delay :(

Here's the pic

So you hold this button down for seconds prior to turning the ignition to position 1

Will have to try this but any idea where you can find the code (it was not supplied with the car)

Cheers

I just tried to follow this process to pair my iphone, but it didn't seem to work straightaway.

Eventually I did get it working and paired, but only by pressing the blue tooth button for 3 secs (inside the centre console) with the ignition turned on (position 1) - if I started the proces (by pushing the button) with the iginition off (position 0) - as suggested above (and in the manual) I couldn't get any "pairing" messages up on the screen.

Thanks to Disca for the help here.

:headbang: well this is mega frustrating!!! :headbang:

I have followed both sets of instructions to hold down button before, after (& during), but just cannot get the elusive "BLUETOOTH PAIRING" to display!

Any other tips???

I'm in the same boat. Just got an LG G4 and trying to pair up the Bluetooth. I'm having great difficulties doing so. The phone see the Bluetooth on the car a mile away, but I cant get the car to initiate the pairing sequence. Anyone able to help out? There are so many different things on the internet about it.

I've tried following the procedure to delete all stored bluetooth devices on the car but none of what I've read is having an effect.

I also read that the dealer needs to delete any bluetooth devices. Is that the case? Anyone with a z4m roadster managed to delete their bluetooth devices? http://telewizor.eu/forum/viewforum.php?f=2

mines always worked lol

get in car, hold button for 3 seconds, turn ignition on wait a further second let go of button

Hallelujah!!! I have finally paried my phone (iPhone 6)! So just in case anybody else finds themselves in the same situation, here's how I did it (on 2008 Z4C with nav):-

1. Get your phone to the Bluetooth On/Off/Devices settings page and switch off Bluetooth.
2. With KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION, open phone compartment and press and hold the Bluetooth (man shouting!) button for 3 seconds.
3. Then with the button still pressed, insert key into ignition and turn key two clicks (where all the warning lights come on).
4. JUST AS THE SAT-NAV STARTS TO OPEN, release the Bluetooth button.
5. Quickly turn on Bluetooth on the phone. Timing seems to be critical and it took a couple of attempts to get the elusive pairing phone prompt.
6. Once at the prompt, I just entered the 4 digit Bluetooth key into my phone and it connected straight away, and after a few minutes had copied my address book of a few hundred numbers across.

Hope this helps others that find themselves sat in their nice new car swearing at it for hours!!!! :headbang:

Cheers,
Lee
