bluetooth or not bluetooth

Hi there Z4 enthusiasts!

I have just joined Z4-forums as I am actively looking to purchase a second has e85 facelift model. (yay!)

one spec I was ideally hoping for was to have bluetooth to come already installed, but I wouldn't the lack of bluetooth to stop me making a purchase if it can be a) added to be a official BMW feature, or b) add it using 3rd party equipment without drilling and soldering. I've browsed through some of the forum, but can't seem to locate the same question to mine. The main use of this would be to play music via my iPhone 4 over my speakers in the car. Making calls will be seconary, but I guess this is the same feature.

any pointers to the correct post or just a good answer will be very appreciated!

thanks so much guys in advance!

Sotiris.

hello and welcome

a parrot mki9200 gives you both bluetooth and media connections, have you thought of that?

Others will suggest Parrot ,Intravee etc
however if music is main use I use a Bluetooth receiver which plugs into the AUX input and allows sound into the car system
I do also have F/F Bluetooth which handles calls and management via the MFSW
I have the BMW ipod kit installed but that only plays via constructed playlists and the car cannot list them so a pain

The receiver is only £17.99 but absolutely no fitting and it is tiny

Hi guys,

wow, quick response! Ok, so yes music is the main factor here, but i would ideally make a call here and there, and just use an iPhone holder to stick it to the screen. The parrot seems cool, maybe a bit overkill at the beginning, but it certainly does what i need and MORE!! In response to 'wegras' do all z4's come with an AUX port?? and if so, can you send me a link to the receiver you mentioned.

thanks

sotiris.

If your main use of bluetooth is for music, AUX may be more cheaper and give wider range of choice when it comes to car selection. It's an easy retro fit if the car doesnt come with it. I fitted AUX on mine. Didn't take long...

Or as Taz mentioned, Parrot will do...

the parrot will be a bit overkill if i am using the iPhone as a satnav as well, there'll just be too many things on display. But still will consider if all else fails. Is there any way of knowing which models have AUX by looking at the age of the car or even which spec packs come installed with the car?

On a side note, I can't believe cup holders don't come as standard, and you need the 'comfort pack'. If I can't find one with this, can they be added? I'm sure theres a post about this, I'll take a look now... :driving:

Cup holders are easy retro fit. Most models from 2006 will have AUX, but it's easy to ask the dealer or seller.

Yes, Z4s didn't have a generous options list as standard... :(

Playing music via Bluetooth is not naturally possible. One of the solution above is viable and most seem to go Intravee.

Or you go aux in and fit your phone in easy reach/custom fit the ashtray (lots if threads showing solutions available).

I've recently gone for an aux to iPhone data cable linked upwards to the phone mounted magnetically to the dash behind the left hand side of the steering wheel. Bluetooth calls still operate of course.

Actually playing music over B/T is quite possible as long as both paired items are A2DP2.1 iPhone4 is and so is the receiver I identified :poke:

I do it every time I use the Z ....................
and the OP was talking iPhone4

Apologies wegras. Was refering to the standard bluetooth in the car. That ebay module looks interesting. How reliable is it and does it ever suffer from drop out?

Too late...just bought one

I am sure you will be delighted ,you can also plug into anything that has an AUX in and turn it into a B/T device

No drop outs but read the manual for pairing :) I didn't
ps so good I have one for house as well

Hi all!

This is my first official post on the Z4 Forum... I just picked up a 2004 Z4 3.0i on Friday, and I'm getting a feel for it.

One item I'm really missing is the Aux in; and I'm not at all sure if there's Bluetooth enabled in the vehicle, even though all the buttons are there on the steering wheel, the mic. is on the steering column, and the screen (I have NAV) shows a Telephone option... I just can't seem to get any bluetooth device to locate the vehicle, which leads me to believe that there's no bluetooth module in the car. Go figure.

So, I've ordered myself the Aux in which I'm going to install, and I'm thinking of ordering a bluetooth receiver off eBay. Has anyone plugged a bluetooth receiver into their aux in and can they confirm if it works for both music & phonecalls? I'm using an iPhone 4.

Much appreciated!
