Bluetooth Issues - wrong code??

Hi all,

So when I bought my car I was told by the previous owner that he’s never managed to get the Bluetooth hands free to work in the car due to the fact the code in the book is wrong. He spoke to BMW and they said the code should be on the module. Firstly is this true and secondly if so where is it located?

If this is not true how do I go about getting the correct code?

The car is a 2006 coupe but doesn't have the sat nav. It has the phone cradle that’s in the middle console. There is a button on the steering wheel and also on the cradle (the button with the mouth and little lines)

I'm thinking he’s either right and it’s the wrong code or maybe he didn't activate it in the correct order? Is there a guide on how to do this?

I look forward to your wise words of wisdom........

Though I dont have one in my car I think it is located in the boot behind the liner underneath where the roof drops into kind of on the back of the seats :? and yes the code should be on a label attached to the module.

Thanks toolmanchris, I dont suppose you know how to get to it? I'm guessing i need to go in through the back but it doesnt look that clear how to access it.

IIRC
Press and hold the button on the phone cradle for 3seconds whilst the key is in but it is not turned to any position, then whilst still holding the button turn the key to the 1st postion and keep holding the button for about 5 seconds then the stereo will say BT pair or scanning or something. Make sure your phone is set to visible and start scanning, then select bmw-xxxxx and select pair and input the code. Allow it to sync contacts and pair automatically then once done you can then turn the ignition off. Now it should automatically connect when your car is started.

To get the code you can undo speaker surround behind the drivers seat and look through a small hole and see the module with the code on it. But you'll have to put some light in there and move a cable slightly out of the way. This is supposed to be the easiest way than ripping up the carpets in the boot or paying bmw.

EDIT: beaten like a ginger step-child.

Yup thats what i found some time ago when I was thinking of fitting one to my car. Decided not to in the end as there are better retro fit systems available and I will try one of them when the time is right. :D

Hi again,

So I popped out to the car in my lunch break and thought I’d give it a go.

My findings are as follows....................

I don’t know if it’s a coupe thing or Z4’s in general but you can’t see it from behind the passenger seat even if you remove the speaker cover or tray underneath as there’s a bulkhead in the way.

I therefore needed to go through the boot way. I pulled up the battery cover and removed the two plugs that hold the rest of the bottom carpet in place.
Now to get to the module in other guides you need to remove a lot more stuff but seeing as I didn’t have time I thought I might be able to stick my hand under and upwards. This was very tight (got a few cuts) but I managed to do it. Now I don’t think a mirror would have worked here as it was just too tight and not enough light. I therefore decided to use my phone.
By continuously recording video the flash remains on and I didn’t have to worry about finding the right button to take a picture.
After several attempts I managed to get a grainy picture of the code. First guess was wrong as the picture was so bad but it gave me a general idea and second guess was a success. I now have my HTC paired to the car, woooooo!

Thanks for all your help!

Just to let you know that navcoder software can tell you what the bluetooth pass key is should anyone loss it and remove the sticker.

I can't get my htc one m8 to pair although my iPhone 5 was fine.

I get the pairing screen put in the code and it keeps dis connecting

Any ideas?!!

Dont you have problems with audio quality on htc one? And what kind of rom are you using?
I have htc one m7 with stock 4.4.3 and the voice level is very low compared to my old htc sensation - makes the bluetooth audio useless while driving top down or even top up with motorway speeds
