bluetooth installation

Hi All,
I have been using one of these blutooth boards in the e89 Z4 so that my phone connects wirelessly with Bluetooth.

I installed it in the centre console armrest where the cup holders are as there is an AUX port for the stereo plug and a 12V plug for power.
It's a super cheap solution at $3 and works perfectly 99% of the time.

I'd like to improve two things:
  • The power to the 12 cig lighter plug stops as soon as the engine stops. I'd like it to stay on until I pull out the key or lock the car, like the radio stays on
  • Occaasionally the connection suffers. I think it's Electro Magnetic Interference or perhaps the arm-rest blocking the signal from the phone which sits on my dash vent

Anyone got any suggestions for the above?
Anyone know if there's an accessible wire I can tap into that is energised when the radio is energised? (it used to be called "Accessory" I think)
Anyone know if there's another auxiliary port somewhere else?

Thanks as always
L

I know on the e85, and my wife's e92 (I'm 99% sure), you can change the timeout on the 'consumer electronics' (the lighter outputs) with NCS, so that they stay on for different amounts of times after the ignition is turned off.

So far example, my E86 has the lighter socket on for 16 minutes after ignition off. My wife's e92 is power off immediately (just like your e89).

Could be something to investigate before cutting into the car's wiring loom.

Main fuse board under the glove box has quite a few redundant tapping points for adaptive suspendion for example

Yes, NCS Expert

Sold on eBay for about £20. Usually in a bundle with INPA(or ista/d) too

INPA and ista are dealer level diagnosis software. NCS is coding

I just fired up NCSDummy (the program that translates the options from German for you), and found these two - which I think should do what you want. There's some other options around accessories too, but they are more ambiguous at a glance.

I think changing SPERRE_KLRAUS_SST to activ/enabled will do what you want, without wiring changes.

Other more ambiguous options:

Yep. Something like this should do

You can find the software easily enough online, or most cables come with it on a DVD
