bluetooth auxilliary input

heres a little thing i came across that someone might find useful.i fitted the aux input to my z a while back but i really didn't like wires all over from my mp3 player.i happened to come across a sony ericsson bluetooth stereo headset,the model is a hbh-ds200.if you replace the headphones with a small lead to the aux input you will then be able to use any bluetooth mp3 player or mobile phone.i can now close the ashtray cover and still use my mp3 player.no leads :thumbsup: .i will put some pics on at a later date.hope that helps :) DSC00086.jpg .....this is the bluetooth headset tucked away in ashtray. I want to move my aux from out of the ash tray, any ideas as to the best place? Preferably under the centre console but I imagine this is hard to do...
 
very good, i use a decent SE phone that pushes bluetooth mp3 to my other car head unit and was thinking about how best to achieve this in the same way.

looks like ill be on ebay now.. :thumbsup:

In 07/08 they came standard with an aux input installed in the removable panel under the AC controls

It is actually quite easy to do. Take out the ash tray with one screw which will also make the panel with the buttons above the ash tray come out easily. Take the aux input and feed it back through the center console to the removable panel below the climate control. Drill a small hole for the aux jack in the panel and screw it down. You are now finished and it took me about 15 minutes.
 
yeah I think that is the best place, kind of a shame it is not in the back of the centre console like the 1 series was...ah well.

Hi bigcoose and everyone

That seems like a great suggestion. At the moment I've got the aux input in my ashtray like you, however I've got a big long lead to my new ipod Touch.

However, that sony ericsonn bluetooth part you've used, can that only be used alongside a sony mp3 player? Or could I buy that part you've got and still use it with my Ipod through the bluetooth? Is it also possible to connect my phone via the same bluetooth part?

Sorry for all the questions but this could potentially get rid of the aux cable!

hi there sadgamble.the mp3 player im currently using is made by samsung and i have previously used the headset with my sony phone,nokia phone,lg phone and my garmin zumo sat nav on my motorbike,it was used on my bike so i could hear directions given by the sat nav.i used headphones with it and placed it inside my helmet to achieve it.i would think it will work with any bluetooth device to be honest.hope that helps. :thumbsup:
 
as above except the iphone bluetooth is notoriously crippled, so I don't think it yet supports A2DP and the iphone is about the only device you can't use with the above.

iirc the new iphone firmware increased the bluetooth stack, but id check this before purchasing.

I'm aiming to put the aux socket either in the storage between the seats or in the little "oddments tray" just behind the hand brake. iPod fits there perfectly and I'm hijacking the cable that has already been prewired for the CD changer. I've located the cable and adjusted the connector at the head unit, tested and it's all going to work I just need another dry day and I should have it sorted.
 
interesting, aux-in is seperate from the cd changer prewire remember, although if you have tested it I'm sure you know this.

I have aux-in stemming from the headunit (which is largely unused) and my Intravee stemming from the centre console where my ipod hides.

would be pretty easy to extend the aux to the oddments box behind the handbrake.
 
Yeah the connectors are slightly different so that you can't plug them into the wrong socket in the head unit, but you can easily take the cables out of the unused cd-changer plug and connect them to an aux connector plug. There's just 3 cables (L/R/Gnd) and they're easy to remove with a small screwdriver. I got hold of an aux connector and the wiring diagram from shipkillers site. Finding the connector at the other end was a bit tough - have to remove the panel between the seats following the cd-changer instructions but don't need to take out the storage unit, just reach around behind it. - I took out the storage pockets behind the driver seat (where some have speakers) to get access. The cable was taped to the floor behind the center storage unit.
I then bought some wires and connectors from BMW for about a fiver to extend the cable. Now all I need to do is make a connection between these and the aux cable, I have bough a connector block but finding the time to do it when it's dry is proving difficult.
I will post a DIY guide when I've done it but happy to try and help others on here.
 
Today I finished connecting my AUX in the oddments tray between the seats using the prewired CD changer connection and it's working a treat. I'll do a write up when I get a chance but if anyone wants to do it before then get in touch. I also have a few spare parts which I didn't need including a head unit connector plug for the aux in.
 
just did a quick search for Iphone A2DP and you certainly need firmware 3.0+ but even then it doesn't look like a walk in the park.
