Bluetooth and Galaxy Nexus

Hi.

I have the 16/9 GPS with bluetooth option in my beloved M Roadster. I previously owned a Google Nexus S phone, and connecting the phone to the car through bluetooth was working perfectly.
I changed my phone for a Galaxy Nexus, and now, bluetooth is not working so perfectly at all : the phone number register on the 16/9 screen is empty but for one number. Which means i can't search for phone numbers using the steering wheel controls or the radio buttons, and when people call me, i can't see their names on the screen either.
Did anyone encounter the same problem ?

I had a quick look but I'm struggling with the BT as well, having not had a car with it before. Mine doesn't even show up on my phone and doesn't allow me to pair. I was a bit concerned that I hadn't actually got BT but my Beemer dealer said it did have it.

Can anyone link to some good basic instructions so we can figure out what is normal behaviour?

I have a Galaxy S3 by the way.

Thanks!

M.

mjgerrard, you may have wanted to use a search function

Here's a basic guide how to operate your bluetooth

and if you have a zed for advanced bluetooth users, and do not have a pairing button, you will find this helpful:

Sorry haha, I have no idea how I missed it. The search function was indeed used! Long day clearly.

So, i tried yesterday to reset the BT function, that is to remove all paired phones using the procedure in one of the two other threads linked above. Then i paired my phone again, and the problem is still the same : the phone directory on the BT unit is empty but for one number.
I tried to change the name of the phone on the phone side, no effect.

Is there a limit of some sort to the number of phone numbers that can be stored in the BT unit on the car ?

I'm having a similar issue. When I bough the car my android phone paired fine and numbers synced.

However have a new android phone and it doesn't want to know. I'm not to worried about the numbers but would like the phone to work when somebody calls me.

As a backup, you guys could do what I do and use the Aux port and a stereo cable. I find that it works quite well so that calls are through the speakers and the mic on the phone is sensitive enough (In a cradle on the windscreen) to work like that. You must be in AUX mode to get this to work though so it isn't foolproof. I'm in Aux most of the time listening to Spotify so works well for me.

Unfortunately I have followed the instructions provided and I still can't get it to pair. I don't have a pairing button but when following the "Turn key, search for car" bit, my phone doesn't find anything. Tried with several different phones and no joy.

Problem is : i'm using my phone primarily as a... phone. And having all my contacts on my head unit with the (dated...) 16/9 screen is a big plus when it comes done to, well, phoning. Besides, the call functionality of my phone paired to the bluetooth works. I can send or receive phone calls through the car speakers. Only the register is empty.

Having said that.
Apparently, there is a bug somewhere in Android when you update the phone Over The Air. My Galaxu Nexus was recently updated from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 and this seems to wreck something in the bluetooth stack. I found this thread on reddit in which people have resolved the issue by doing a factory reset of their phone.
I will try this as soon as possible.

I have a normal bmw business cd (no sat nav) and I can browse a phonebook of my htc android 4.0 (ice cream sandwitch) but the radio never seemed to download them, as they are not accessible when the phone isnt connected to the car.
Maybe you should install some update for phone bluetooth stack?

The phone is currently running the official 4.2.2 release of Android (JDQ39 build). I'm not sure if there is any bluetooth stack update available.
I should be able to try another build of Android this weekend, a friend is running a CM10.1 on his Note.

Galaxy Nexus updated to CM10.1 Nightly from 04/06... fail again. :headbang:
It's even worse : the BT won't even connect to the car.

Now tested with CM10.1 M2 snapshot : works perfectly ! :D

I updated to M3 two days ago (the phone, not the car...), but i did not try it yet.

OK, i know i'm the only one interested in such things, but i'll continue to keep you informed of my BT problems. :D

M3 is working correctly but i had to first remove all paired devices et go through the pairing process again. It seems that the initial contact transfer works better if the phone is fully ON (ie not in sleep mode).

Hi Shooter

I have a nexus and can't get the bluetooth to work either. 8'm running stock android 4.2.2. I don't really want to go down the custom ROM route. Can you advise what i can do?

thanks

The only thing that worked for me was to switch to a CyanogenMod ROM (the 10.1 version has been released a few days ago).
