Blowing exhaust

The problems keep coming it seems. I took the Z4 out yesterday for a spirited sprint down a dual carriage way and when i arrived at my destination i thought the car sounded a bit beefier than normal but thought it was either in my imagination or it was because the car was hot.

The wife has just started it on the drive to go out in it and it definitely sounds more farty than normal.

Time to get the exhaust inspected i think. Is there a particular section that tends to go or is it just random?

Could be the exhaust valve stuck open …normally closed but opens in sports mode?

Usually fairly has tight..stainless exhaust system last forever normally..

You could be right. When my wife went out in it this morning it didn't sounds as farty. I will keep my eye on it. Could have a run down to my friends garage. We were under the car recently for a leaking diff (now repaired) amd we didn't see anything untoward with the exhaust

Maybe you disturbed things when you twiddled with the diff?

Well I cannot comment on the wife, but if you're talking about the car, don't they always sound "loud" for a few seconds on start up?

Yes that’s true on a stock car…helps the cat warm up as they throw extra fuel in too…

I believe the OP's car is stock.

The noisy start-up is the cold start program, normally retards the ignition along with other things, including (as you said), adds more fuel (needed for cold starts since the internal combustion engine was invented) — sounds quite impressive!
