Blow Drying

Does anyone blow dry their car after washing rather than using a drying towel etc.

I came across this blower from Ryobi and thought it would be ideal being compact etc but it seems its only available in the USA :( I've contacted Ryobi UK but had no response.

For some reason blow drying your motor seems to be an American thing, there doesn't seem to be as much info on it here in the UK or the best cordless blower to get. Most traditional garden blowers are too large.

Anyone use one and can suggest a decent cordless compact blower.

Blow drying is the only thing I have done for about 15 years now. The most marring is from drying the car, so the drying with air is the best way.

I have two different dryers, one on wheels and mains power with warm air and one cordless one.

This is the charger for it, excellent make but fairly pricy. Battery was about £300 or so

Also available direct from them in the UK

Tim, I bought a pet dryer for circa £50 (considerably cheaper than car one) and bought a Henry hoover type 5m hose for circa £15. Changed the end fitting over from old to new hose and dries the car perfectly with the added bonus of not having to keep moving the machine iirc the standard hose is 2m

I have a pet dryer/motorcycle dryer. I only use it to dry my motorbike and it does a fantastic job. You can adjust heat and fan speed. It’s mains powered though but that’s not a big problem. I have thought about using it to dry the car but as yet never used it for that but I may just give it a try next time I wash the car. It cost me about £70 if I remember correctly

Thanks for the replies,

I've looked at the EGO blower but ouch it is a tad pricey plus cost of batteries ontop

Was really after a cordless blower it's just most seem too large for drying the car, really they're just garden blowers, hence the Ryobi I've seen looks ideal as its alot smaller, just not available here.

Seen this one which is compact but 12v so might be a bit underpowered.

I have a blower but it takes a while to dry the car with it. What I also have is a Race Glaze water purifier. I connect my hosepipe to this. The water flows through a resin tank and leaves the car spot free, even on a sunny day. No need to dry it.You can buy the tank in different sizes depending on your needs and the resin can be replaced. When the car is rinsed I drive it for mile or two so any residual water blows off and the job is done in double quick time. Occasionally I use my blower to remove water from the door shuts etc.

I use the following which was recommended to me by my detailer. Not cheap but powerful and has a very long hose. For the final rinse of the car prior to using the blower I also use the Raceglaze filter system.

I’m using a Ryobi with good results. Had a whimpy one first and upgraded to a RY18BLXB-0, which one could describe as ”substantial”. It’s low noise, 12m3/min and 150km/h, big and bold making passing dog walkers smile.

I'd looked at this one a while back - been meaning to buy it but other things keep taking priority! Not sure if it helps but looks a little cheaper than other options?

Just to bear in mind a leaf blower won't dry the car as it doesn't have the facility to warm the air it is blowing out. Depending on weather conditions, it may take a while to blow all of the residual water off a car even if it had a ceramic coating. A benefit of using a dryer with a long flexible hose is that the main unit rests on the floor and it's easier to work all around the car, including the roof. You are also less likely to accidentally knock the blower against the paintwork.

I read this thread and thought I would try using my petrol-powered leaf blower to dry the Z4. This happened.....
