Bloody sprayers s**t job

i've had my rear bumper respray, when i got it back from the painters they've done i really s*** job lots of marks very thin paint not even sprayed in the exhaust cut outs.
So this week i got them to do it again, picked it up yesterday fitted it this morning only to find at certain angles the paint looks a completely different shade,:evil: has anybody got any ideas on how i can rectify this!!! would it need wet sanding and polishing would that help? The paint finish now looks great and i can see there is plenty of paint put on maybe now too much ?
I can't take it back again as we didn't part on the best of terms and to be honest it was a cheap job looks like i got what i paid for.

When i had it back the first time i fitted it to the car and went to Mac's meet on Sunday there was no shade difference then just not very good paint , so why would it be so different now!!!?

On that first PIC, it looks like they have just used gloss black rather than black sapphire,can't see any flecks catching the sunlight like on your rear quarter panel.

+1 are there mica flecks in the paint?
 
Yes definitely metal flakes in the paint black sapphire 475 i provide them with the code

Perhaps it's just the old paint has faded a little over time? This is often why paintshops need to feather/blend repairs into the rest of the paintwork.

You may find that, once you've treated the new paint to a few coats of the same wax/sealant etc. that you use on the rest of the car, it matches better

Unfortunately this is a problem with trying to match metallic paint not the painters themselves. There are two issues here; 1) The metalic particles are orientated differently on the bumper to the quarter panel and therefore are reflecting light at different angles. 2) the laquer used recently is fresh and doesn't have the UV ageing of the original paint. As far as I'm aware the only way to get a perfect match is to "blow in" the surrounding panels at the same time as the bumper is sprayed.
 
Doesn't look that good, although I suspect the angles in the first photo make it look even worse. You also got what you say you paid for - a cheap job.

The guys above have covered the main reasons for difference, but add to that using a different paint manufacturer for the first and second times and that plastic bumpers always come out a different colour to metal. My local guy has 2 different paint systems available and on top of that he can offer cellulose for restoration reasons, so lots of variables.

You've got 2 choices for the future:
1 is to have it blended in and this is standard when any 2 panels join as they will never match and blending stops the eye seeing differences.
2 is what I do these days and take the car to the paint mixer who mixes the paint and then holds a spatula of it against adjacent paint. Last time he mixed 3 times until he was really happy. I then spray myself confident when the bumper meets the car it will be close enough without blending
 
To be fair i wish i hadn't been so bloody inpatient!! but you know what it's like i wanted it on and my usual painter was busy to the middle of september.
I think i will probably get him to respray it when he is free again.
The initial spray job cost me 80 quid and the bumper was in terrible condition deep garages and damaged so i cant moan too much.
But in the meantime i have wet sanded and cut back the paint and as long as a suns not shining it doesn't look too bad

TBH it's not just on resprays! I have seen many cars where the bumpers are a different shade than the rest of the car, the problem you have is that most of the time the car is sprayed in one factory and the bumpers in another, so you never get an exact match. Also paint takes to metal and plastic differently.

Take a look here, this guy picks his brand new car up look at the front and rear bumpers...stick out like a sore thumb!

This is 100% correct...

Every panel should be painted how it will sit on the car.

With a bumper they usually sit them on a table or trestle and paint it with the arch apertures pointing toward the floor. This will make the metallic fleck lay at the incorrect orientation..

Causing the look you know have.

Of course there could be a few other scenario's...
 
Is the bumper more of a brown in certain lights?

That is how my front bumper is after the previous owner had it sprayed. I'm having it done again over winter is it has a lot of chips. I used a local company for my rear and they did a good job for 150 CIN. They say they never have an issue with 475 matching.

BUT, and a big BUT, there are three different 475's available at least as another company I went to got me to choose the one I wanted and there were differences, one was more blue I can't remember the other. From memory they were from different manufacturers. I didn't use them in the end though.
 
ex sprayer talking here, the main problem is that the panelwas possiblly painted flat on a stand, i have seen panels painted off the car at the same time as the car, the same number of coats ,same flash off time between coats with the same paint out of the same gun and lookk a total mismatch because they were hung upside down for painting. you would have put money on it that they were painted from a different tin of paint. blowing in is not so common as it used to be as paint systems are generally so much better than they used to be. metallic mismatches are not so much of a problem as they were. Blowing in looks just as bad a lot of the time, some times you collect your car from having a new wing painted and you think it is a perfect match because you cant see any diferece to the door , its only a few days or weeks later , when in a particular light or angle or orange street lamps , you noticed the paint shop has blown it into the door and "lost " it under the shadow of the door mirror. it just takes yr eyes off it. once you have found it, yr eyes are drawn to it every time you see the car and it really winds you up, others possibly wont even see it. another frustrating part of being fastideous about our cars . probably the best course of action is to research the best local approved repairer, the one where everyone goes, pay that bit extra and come away happy. do not accept them blowing in half a panel, you will see it and wont be happy. good luck :thumbsup:

Perhaps it's something as simple as the make of paint they used then. My rear bumper and aero skirts were painted off the car and are fine. Looking forward to getting my front bumper done then the car will be nearly up to spec. Just hope it matches :cry:
 
So the bumper has been resprayed again !! for the third time in 3 weeks, this time I'm very happy with it the colour is spot on

MATT JARVIS AUTO CARE
in Upton Snodsbury just outside Worcester , very professional wish i had found him frist
