Arrived in my new post in Southern Sudan and been out for a few days on a site visit. No roads here just mud tracks through low lying bush and jungle. On the way back to the capital, Juba, passed a small village and suddenly confronted by a log across the road. The driver stops (were in a Toyota 4 x4 Landcruiser) and from the bushes beside the road out steps a Soutern Sudan 'freedom' fighter in full combats and AK47 
Bloody hell me thinks. Driver opens the window and the two just stare at each other. Use a little bit of my knowledge of the local language and ask the guy if he is OK. Broad smile crosses his face and he asks for a lift to the next village - did we give him a lift BLOODY RIGHT WE DID....... .
Now back in the capital and drinking heavily
