What's with all this Halloween malarkey these days? We didn't use to give a s*** about it when I was growing up. It was just an excuse to get up to mischief and blag some cash and sweets. Now it's gone all commercialised :?

You've answered your own question!

We drove through Mechanic Falls about ten years ago.

We went to Salem when we were there and always said we would love to go back at Halloween!

We were in Salem about 7 years ago for the annual Haunted happenings event at Halloween, Hated it, You literally could not move if you wanted to go into anywhere you were looking at a 2 hour Q. Infact it took us 3 hours to get into Salem after turning off the interstate (normally a 20 minute drive.)

We went back a couple of years later (not at halloween) and loved it, also a great base for exploring that part of the US.

Oh no, I'd hate that. That's decided me not to go at Halloween then!
We loved it there too. Did you go on the amphibious 'Ducky Boat' as we christened it?
The place has a great atmosphere. We loved North Conway as well.

Amphibious Ducky?? are you talking about the thing in Boston?? If so, no, did see it, We walked the freedom trail round Boston, we had 2 days in Salem and took the ferry to Boston for one of the days.
Then we drove down to cape cod for a week and stayed in a great B&B, I remember sitting having breakfast in the garden and a humming bird hovered over my jug of maple syrup, One of lifes special moments :) :)

http://www.mobyduck.com/ it was this but just seen its being put out of commission now, shame.

We went to Cape Cod too. Went Whale watching from there, one of the best experiences of my life. Just amazing. When we travelled up to Plymouth we went whale watching again from there.

Wanting to go back now we're talking about it!
