Tell you what, I joined the M4 last week with a boy-racered 330D up my arse and floored it, and he pretty much kept up with me. I was very impressed, in a grudging kind of way

Even more off topic, hired a Yaris while away over the weekend. There's gutless and there's slower than an asthmatic snail in a sand pit.

I came from a mk3 MR2 as well - I don't think there was really much in it performance wise - both were quick enough if you kept your foot down

Plus I see you now have the same model as me including the turbine wheels, apart from yours is a facelift !

I did - have got an e89 now, but the 2.0i is a great engine IMHO (you'll read numerous threads on here about it vs. bigger engines) that's not a poor relation to the 6-cyls (as some people would have you believe )

You can't beat the torque of a diesel, I had a little fun with a X3 35d the other week & we both gunned it coming off a roundabout & initially he got away from me in the M3 it was only when my revs were right up I got by him! & I loved our old 330d too.

Regarding the MR2 Turbo that was the only car that ever took me off the line in my old 200sx that was running 250bhp i was well impressed!...I sound like a terrible boy racer!

According to the stats I read, the 2.0i does it in 8.2, which equals 0.5 seconds. Incidentally, all spec MR2 Mk3 standard 1.8 vti did it in that time. However, the MR2 was much faster in the initial take off speed, whereas I find the zed only really starts when you get it over 3,5000 revs. Also, re: packing more bhp - it's also a little fatty weight wise compared to the MR2 which weighs under a tonne and therefore needs less bhp.
There is no doubt that the zed is a brill car, but that doesn't mean I have to rubbish the MR2.

P.s. you should see an MR2 with a turbo which is insane !

I had a MK2 MR2 turbo with loads of HKS goodies on it. Apart from track cars, it remains the fastest accelerating car I've driven. Claimed many scalps in that car. Really miss my MR2s, had five over the years...

Well to be fair, as a blonde woman driving a sportscar, every Tom Dick & Harry wants to burn you up at the traffic lights. Not so much the boy racers as Audi drivers, some BMW drivers and big 4x4s. Depends what mood I am in, but most of the time I let them get on with having to prove their masculinity. As this usually happens on the A6 home though, I must admit that I can't then resist overtaking them at speed on one of the roundabouts which they can't corner quite as quickly.

It is pretty satisfying when you see someone in a large diesel estate belch a massive cloud of smoke, because you know that they are having to gun it. Definitely compensates for the fact that they are pulling away from you.

I of course meant accelerating to 30mph in a swift but safe and legal fashion, checking mirrors and shuffling the steering wheel where appropriate.

Good job I was going to suggest you swap your 35iS for the 1.8i model that way you wouldn't have any chioce but to drive sensible!
