Blaring horn

Morning all. Half way to work this morning and my horn just started going crazy. It was a rather embarassing drive back home.

It started blipping every time I went over a bump on the road but then went full scale mental. It also went crazy when I turned the wheel to full lock.

I'm assuming a wiring issue and will start behind the airbag on the wheel. Do I need to disconnect both battery terminals before popping it off? Is there any order in which I need to do this?

Other than here any advice on where else to check?

Does sound like a loose wire, have you removed your steering wheel lately ??

I certainly felt full-on bell-end!!

I've not actually done anything to my car for a few weeks at all. I did have an odd one a couple of weeks ago where my power steering failed, but ignition off/on fixed that. I think that was due to a transient battery issue though.

Ill try get a look over the weekend

This is exactly what it's like :rofl:

Back looking at this as I've been away in holiday and forgot all about it. I think in the short term I'll whip the fuse out to at least let me get to my garage.

The fact is blipped when going over bumps certainly makes it seem like something is loose, rather than faulty but we shall see!
 
You sure your mates haven't rigged it up to the suspension as a prank? Lol

I remember watching a Top Gear episode where they connected the brake light to the horn which was quite funny.

Hope you get the issue sorted. Certainly sounds electrical.
 
Had a quick look this evening but it was too cold to stay out for long.

Horn is on constantly after turning the wheel hard left or right so pretty certain it's something loose at the wheel. I've popped the fuse out for now so I can at least get to work on the morning and plan to check it out properly on Tuesday night

Could be. Easy fix if it is, you won't even have to get your hands dirty!😁
 
I fixed this tonight. Nice simple 10 minute job.

First off, I'm a fanny.

As suspected there was a rogue piece of metal shorting the horn, but not a screw! It was the bloody needle I'd used to do this... Completely forgot that I'd tucked it into the spoke covers as I was rushing to get finished up one night.

What. A. Bellend :rofl:
