Blanking panel for satnav monitor hole??

Bits of my satnav started packing up.
First the satnav computer/DVD drive went a bit flakey, then when the monitor stopped flipping up I bit the bullet and got aftermarket headunit fitted that does all the stuff I need - I'm happy with it.

What I'm not too happy with is having a redundant monitor sitting there in my face the whole time. I know it's fairly discrete sitting permanently closed but it drives me nuts having it on show there but knowing it doesn't work.

It doesn't bug me enough to entertain getting a second hand non-nav dash from a breakers and getting them swapped as that looks like a pretty big job.
I was thinking more like take the monitor out and put some kind of blanking plate or even better some kind of cubby in there - but never seen anything like that anywhere (seen a cubby for I think a x3 which looked similar to the kind of thing I'm thinking of, but very doubtful it would fit).

Looking like my only option would be to get a blanking plate of some kind fabricated up to go in there? Or has anyone seen anything similar or can suggest other options? I don't really know what to do to be honest, just know that leaving it as it is bugs me.

If you look at the first generation X3 code named E83 , they have a storage compartment that's the same size , which you could put in place of the sat nav unit. Take a look on the web . Hope this helps you

The x3 might work, as there was a aftermarket flip up unit for x3 which with a bit of a trim would fit the zed

My wife's 1 series vert has a storage bin there. Just measured it and size is same but the nav unit has a curved front edge. Once removed there may still be some dash behind. Worth a look.

Thanks chaps.
Yeah, the x3 was the one I had seen that looks like it could be the closest fit, but it was that lip that the satnav monitor has that the cubby doesn't that had me doubtful.
However, thanks for confirming the measurements are the same - they seem to be circa £200 so didn't want to take an expensive punt just to find out it was no-where near.
If there is gonna be something obvious there, I would prefer a cubby or something with some function rather than just a homemade blanking plate.
Ta - has given me a bit more direction!

Thanks.
As per my original post - I'm not up for the hassle of switching the whole dash out.
I wouldn't be me doing it so would have to pay someone else to and doesn't look like a quick easy (I.e. cheap) swap.

Would this fit?
