Black Z4M wheels - Yay or Nay?

They look like they could be the perfect solution. Available in yellow aswell.

Anyone had experience with these or seen them installed. Do they look OK or do they look a bit naff?

Have you seen them installed Gannet? Its hard to gauge from the photos on the website.

yes I have, not on my car but on a car round the corner from my house. they stick out and look horribly plasticy. Ive no doubt they do a good job, but I'd rather take the risk.

I was talking to a wheel expert and apparently the chrome is prone to salt damage, so if you are wanting the wheels for winter and dont look after them you might get the nasty rash on them... if you are going to spend the money on them I would say you will look after them. But even so they would need to be cleaned more often than a normal finish. Im a bit OTT with cleaning but i know when i get my 19" CSL shadow chrome wheels the OEM Z4M wheels will be on it during the winter months. Which kind of defies the point of doing it for you in the first place. I think a Gloss black may be your best bet!

What ever you buy curb damage will show up worse than a normal finish because the curb damage is a similar colour. Its up to you I would still look after my winter wheels as well as my summer ones. Dont like wasting money and purposefully letting things disintegrate. Which from looking at your motor, you feel exaclty the same way! So i would go for it! 8)

This. You clearly look after the car, so just go for the colour you really want.

P.S. Those colour rim things look absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah I am thinking the colour rim protectors are probably not the answer. Saw this pic of them on a Smart Car and thought they didnt look that bad to be fair but I guess its a bit late when you have spent £60 and they look naff

I have read a few write ups on the net about refurbing / painting the wheels myself and I am seriously thinking of going this route. For the sake of £50 in materials and a good few hours labour I think its worth having a bash and then if I do end up kerbing one over the winter then I can just do a refurb on that wheel..

Also if it looks rubbish or they start chipping with stones then I could just get them professionally done and Ive only lost £50 and maybe a bit of skin off my knuckles.. And I would gain the satisfaction of having done it myself.

Afterall they are only winter wheels and I should be trying to keep it cheap and cheerful.

You like the debadged look, yet you're willing to even contemplate adding a trinket accessory like the wheel rings...?!? I understand why the debadged look suits your needs (chasing the ///M look). Put what you save on the wheel rings to an M bonnet

BTW I think you've done a fantastic job on the car so far...classy.

Went to my local auto store last night and purchased all the kit I need for doing it.. £48 all in. Wish me luck :|

Anyway, the reason I went for the de-badged look was for aesthetics. The car just looks so more cleaner and balanced without them on. It was the first mod I did to the car when I got it home from the garage. If I had an ///M then I would have de-badged that aswell for the same reasons!

I don't see your reasoning why me thinking of putting on the rim protectors is contradictory to me de-badging the car though?? Maybe I'm just being a little thick and missing something? Wouldn't be the first time

This. You would effectively be PAYING to make your car look WORSE - Definitely not worth it.

I think you're getting what is commonly referred to as the 'Modifiers' Itch'. You want to change something, but be careful - You don't want to go too far! Well thought out mods, even if they are more expensive, are definitely worthwhile.

If you really want a time attack stripe around the edge of your alloys, get it sprayed on, rather than sticking bits of plastic onto your car.

Not sure you would be able to mask the wheel perfectly to paint on a yellow lip??
