Im undecided about the tape at the minute Tom. I have ordered some and will see what I think when it comes. I may well decide to leave it off. I was just a little concerened about there being too much black on the car and this would potentially break it up a bit. we will see though.
Regards glossing the wheels, the procedure was as follows:
1. Clean down the whole wheel with paint thinners.
2. Provide chemical metal to the damaged areas and wait for this to dry.
3. Rub down the area repaired with 80 grade wet and dry
4. Repeat stages 2 and 3 as required
5. Rub down the whole wheel with 240 grade wet and dry to take off the shine and give a key.
6. Wash down the whole wheel twice with water and washing up liquid and thoroughly rinse.
7. Allow to dry naturally
8. Provide 4no coats of grey primer, leaving 30mins between each coat
9. Leave primer to dry over night
10. Rub down primer with 1200 grade wet and dry to ensure a nice smooth surface.
11. Repeat stages 6 and 7
12. Turn on the electric heater in the garage for 30mins to get a nice warm temperature
13. Provide 4no coats of gloss black paint, leaving 30mins between each coat.
14. Leave wheels to dry and harden for a minimum of 24 hours. Mine will have been left for 5 days before I get the tyres fitted.
It should be noted that I had the paint cans sitting in a bucket of warm water for a good 30mins prior to using them and gave them a good shake for 2mins to mix the paint thoroughly.
Hope that this gives you an insight into what has been done
Cheers.
